EARLY ACCESS: The Martian FULL REACTION

The Martian EXTENDED version

We rented the EXTENDED version for this one. Matt Damon crushed this along with the amazing cast that was in this. Shout out to all the crew that took part in this film too! Amazing set pieces and CGI/graphics. The movie works perfectly with a more grounded, tame, and realistic take at the sci-fi genre. The story is very captivating and grips and hooks you throughout this film. And the comedy was very well placed. The soundtrack perfectly captures what would be the mental, psychological state of anyone in this situation. Fantastic film!

I can’t believe I’ve never seen the extended edition, I’ve seen this movie so many times! As always, I had an enjoyable time watching this with you guys. The Martian is such an unexpected gem of a movie.

Becky Casey

10s, 10s, 10s across the board!! Including this awesome reaction 🔥 Had a blast with y’all rewatching this incredible film 🤘

Angelina

Another great movie in space "Gravity"!

I couldn't believe how insanely good this movie was when it came out! I was afraid to watch it thinking it might be more in the horror genre but boy was I wrong! Then my genius little sister handed me the book and just said: "read this!" and it was freakin amazing! It is a super speedy read, hilarious and full of little nuggets of insight into how the "martian" survived. Even more than the film! Definitely worth checking into!

DrEEsky

Yes, I had the same problem.

Eni

Yessss it's here!

Bunnie

ah yes that wasn't my problem but syncing up doesn't work with different versions

Celine

@Celine20: No big deal, the extra 10 minutes in the extended version are not really important. They don't add anything to the plot per se, but only give a little more depth to the characters of the film, and there are a few nice 'Mars' shots in addition. 😊

Chris Lüders

In my opinion, one of the best films of the last ten years and a real masterpiece. Even though it's a science fiction movie, it's very realistic, except for the 'storm' at the beginning. But the actors are great, the soundtrack is incredible and the scenery of Mars (filmed in Jordan, I think) is amazing. 😁 The book is even better and I read it through in 3 days, only interrupting to sleep and eat. 🤗

Chris Lüders

Lol

Work can't end soon enough! This one is such a good movie with so many emotions throughout it!

I had never seen this, don’t know if I was aware it existed, but probably would have never watched it on my own because I would have expected it to be very boring and slow movie. Very glad I my initial assumption was wrong. This movie was very enjoyable to watch and Matt Damon’s character was very relatable. I love how he had his moments of feeling defeated but then would regroup and choose to focus on the positives and what he could do. 👍🏻 I feel like the shout outs to Iron Man and Elrond were nods to Sebastian Stan and Sean Bean being in the movie. 😉 I can also imagine Matt Damon’s character would have no desire to ever return to space. I also think it took a lot for the astronauts who had spouses and children to be willing to go on such a long mission. It would be hard not to be with your kids in their childhoods.

On the other hand, he WAS terminated… (from his job). EDIT: I swear I made this comment midway through and before Answer said the exact same thing in the wrap up.

Jeff K

Hahahaha he does!

Badd Medicine

The part where he's finally getting off, and the state of his body up to his rescue in space never fails to get me so emotional no matter how many times I watched it. And huzzah! Sean Bean actually makes it to the end of a movie, alive! Lol

Anza

One thing that I wish they had carried over from the book (it’s not THAT important but it helps explain how he’s able to do everting), he’s not just a botanist. He’s basically the crew’s handyman because he’s a Jack of all trades, essentially, and knows a little bit about all of the areas of the mission. Also: the crew brought some Earth soil, which is how he was able to grow potatoes in the book, by supplementing the Martian soil with Earth soil since the Earth soil had the necessary bacteria and nutrients for growth.

Jeff K

Sorry about that. We will definitely keep this in mind next time.

I live in Germany and here only the original version is available.. Edit: I found out that the extended version was never available for Germany, not for like DVD/Bluray or Digital...sad

Celine

Not sure where you’re located but Prime Video has it to rent in the US (that’s how I’m currently watching).

Jeff K

I sadly cannot find the extended version digitally online. All say 2h 21 minutes but apparently the extended version is 151 minutes long, 2h 31 minutes...

Celine

I’ve seen this movie sooooo many times but I’ve somehow never seen the extended edition. So this will be new to me too, in some ways. The book is a fantastic, breezy, hugely entertaining read too. Highly recommend.

Jeff K

Aww you guys 👏🏼 what a week this has been for reactions. Looking forward to watching this one. Thank you!

Shelley

Seen it probably a dozen times now and still love it.

Curtis Rice

This movie is out of the normal genres that I enjoy, but it’s just done so well! Excited to sit down with y’all later 😄
