2023-03-27 11:50:05 +0000 UTCThis was a great watch. It'll be awesome if the same can be done for another Naughty Dog game franchise Uncharted. They recently had a movie adaptation, which was ok but not great. Uncharted is what really helped Naughty Dog gain some notoriety in the gaming industry and allowed them to play around with some concepts and functions that was later used in The Last of Us.

They have no one to make a vaccine, Joel knows that, trhe viewers should know that too. As Doctors don't make vaccines. The vacinne would have 100% failed with only 1 person to try and make it, and one who is not some one with the skill to make a vaccine. Not to mention he wasn't even a surgeon yet, he was still in medical school when the apoc started. At least in the game, the show started later so he may have been a surgeon in the TV Show.

We did have close 5 hours of footage but trimmed it down to the cinematic parts of it. They did get to see some of the play. Not enough though for the relationships as you mentioned.

2023-03-20 23:10:51 +0000 UTCOne thing that Iβm sure has been mentioned and discussed but I think bears repeating is that there is a LOT of development of characters and their relationships that happens with dialogue during the gameplay sections. So getting mostly cutscenes is still only a portion of the characterization in the game, and there was some stuff I was sad it seemed you skipped. But I get you couldnβt watch everything. Really enjoyed this video though! Itβs cool to see the comparisons kind of in reverse.

2023-03-20 22:54:57 +0000 UTCFinally got a chance to watch the full reaction, and in the discussion about people who haven't played the game, people who have, etc, and their reactions (about an hour and 10 minutes in), here's where I fall: I did not play the game, myself. But I've watched a couple playthroughs from some of my favorite gaming YouTubers, so I'm very familiar with the story and characters. Personally, I have no problem with any of the changes because they make total sense to me as a viewer, and also when factoring in the challenges the crew faced by filming in Alberta. Like, obviously there was no way they could have Calgary stand in for Pittsburgh (or even Chicago, had they chosen to go that route, or really most cities along that route; they probably could have gotten away with using, like, Columbus but I didn't mind seeing KC). Obviously, the game is a masterpiece. But since the show, while deviating from the source material some, basically hit all of the same major plot points, I'm totally cool with it. And I do think in some cases, the changes were a massive improvement (like Bill and Frank's story, in particular).

I love both just the same in different ways. was a real treat to see one of my fave games adapted in to something with such love and care. I cannot wait until season 2, as the second game i like even more, its so good!

I played the last of us part 1 maybe over 10 times now since it's original 2013 release. Definitely one of my favorite games. The last of us HBO series phenomenal adaptation love both versions

Even though the show is next level fantastic, the game certainly still adds up. Excited to watch this with you guys!

2023-03-20 17:05:07 +0000 UTCIt's been a while since I played the game but i'm pretty sure the mortal kombat machine was on but broken in the game so Riley narrated the game for her so she played it in her mind basically! also in the left behind dlc you see Ellie go to another mall where Joel was left in to find medicine for him and the scenes would alternate between Ellie with Riley and Ellie alone fighting by herself! wanted to add that in because you guys missed it and I personally think they should've added that in the episode

The gameplay you're actually reacting to is the original "The Last of Us" released in 2013 (wasn't called "Part 1" as there was only one game). Just in case anyone was hoping you were reacting to the new version of the game.

2023-03-20 15:41:19 +0000 UTCSpeaking of the voice acting and motion capture stuff, I think you guys might find it super interesting (and Diamond Dave has probably already watched some of it) to check out the behind the scenes stuff with Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, etc actually performing in their mo-cap suits. It's super impressive, because you can see just how intensely serious they're taking it. You can really see how/why the performances are as good as they are.
