I was diagnosed with EDS when I was really young, but it got worse closer I got to 30. Now I’m nearing 40 & it’s finally getting too hard to ignore. And yes I am ADHD/autistic so they do go together as a comorbidity.

We aren’t used to hearing raw vocals anymore so we judge a natural vocal harshly. I don’t care about Sia but I do think more ppl should feel free and sing bc it feels good to do it but the sneaky edits and the shitting on human, natural voices will scare ppl away from trying it which is too bad imo!

2024-10-09 02:14:46 +0000 UTCIf it wasn’t a pre recorded track she was lip syncing to, it was heavily filtered and pitch corrected - most if not all vocals we hear “live” on TV or at concerts (at a certain level) involve the equivalent of photoshop for the voice or the prerecorded track

2024-10-08 01:01:42 +0000 UTCTracy, I think the piece you're missing re: Ehler Danlos, Jessie J, Sia and Lena Dunham is neurodivergence. Lena and Sia are autistic, Jessie J is ADHD. Connective tissue disorders are common comorbidity.

2024-10-05 15:59:49 +0000 UTCI agree with Tracie re: fibromyalgia/stiff person/chronic Lyme and conversion disorder. These people are experiencing physical symptoms and looking for a physical treatment but they might get relief from psychological care, like EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, etc. HOWEVER they are usually insistent that they need “medical” treatment and not mental health treatment. I think Celine was groomed by René and exploited her whole life and it’s probably incredibly difficult to wrap your head around that - so she pushes it down thinking it’s gone but she hasn’t processed it so it’s coming out in physical ways.

Orthopaedics, Physical Therapy, Radiology etc. Anyone calling themselves a "Sports Medicine" doctor should be Fellowship trained and board-certified. They also can be uniquely trained and equipped to treat para athletes! Any more questions about medicine/medical education/specialties, and/or higher education in general, ask me! My whole career has been in academic medical research.

2024-10-03 19:56:13 +0000 UTCHighly recommend the podcast Hysterical https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/hysterical/id1753789609 It’s beautifully composed and takes the topic in fascinating and unexpected directions in later episodes. My partner loved it as well. He’s a PA in a psychiatric dept at a university and works basically as a consult for doctors in the hospital treating patients. Long story short it’s jarring how often he argues with doctors and nurses to take mental health seriously and into account when treating patients. And a fun? lil tip - If an elderly person is suddenly acting out of character, often times violent, insist on checking for UTI. UTIs manifest and present in weird ways with elderly people, but they are very common and doctors often treat these symptoms as mental illness when it’s actually an untreated UTI causing the elderly person to act in those ways.
