Oh and I, like Rich, am very excited to watch Norelle open a sliding Shoji screen next week. The music cue as she does that is the first time I recall appreciating the genius of editors.

2024-05-04 04:09:14 +0000 UTCThe chopsticks they gave the girls for the umeboshi challenge had little connectors on them, like for a child's chopsticks. Ann, Eva, and Norelle used their fingers anyway. Nicole and Amanda used the chopsticks as supplied. Yaya, possibly in order to show off her worldly chopsticks skills, disconnected them so there was a little plastic bit sticking out during her commercial. Though I love most pickles, I find umeboshi unpalatably sour & salty. But I saw this episode years before I ever ate one so the girls probably influenced me.

2024-05-04 04:05:40 +0000 UTCRewatching this again as someone who has studied Japanese for ~7 years and still speaks at toddler level this episode was both infuriating and also mind boggling (??) I agree they must have done something to the umeboshi to get those reactions from the ladies.
