I assumed Xiomara didn't want to be Grace Jones because she wanted to be more traditionally "beautiful" (something she'd complained about in previous episodes). I thought it was unfair for Tyra to say that when Xiomara never said that and wasn't there to explain her feelings.

2023-11-25 02:56:54 +0000 UTCAs a Black person, I get what Tyra is saying about colorism --- but why not just give Xiomara one of Grace Jones's icon makeup looks instead of darkening her skin? Xiomara's apprehension to darkening her skin seemed to stem from her not wanting to do possible blackface and not about skin color ... but I could just be projecting this, as I don't know how Xiomara identifies. Why not have Camille be Grace Jones since they both have Jamaican roots? Were the producers trying to play head games with Camille with this choice? Fun fact: I once knew Grace Jones's family, and got to meet Grace once during the Boomerang era. She was lovely. I also experienced watching an episode of In Lovely Color with Grace's son Paulo and during the episode Kim Wayans did a sketch as Grace Jones.
