2023-10-01 21:40:20 +0000 UTCI believe Tyra was correct about the House of Carven being the oldest couture house in Paris when this show aired ... based on a specific standard. From 1945-2010, the House of Carven was a member of Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, the governing body which decides which fashion brands meet the standard for (haute) couture. Without this membership a brand/label legally can't be a couture house. Since Carven lost it membership, I believe Chanel is now the oldest couture house. Hermes is one the oldest luxury goods brands, but they never were a member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, so they are not considered a couture house.

Since I now have a reputation of providing corrections, I have another: That quote from Robin that is often attributed to Alexander Hamilton is actually a quote from a journalist named Alex Hamilton in the 1970s. The original quote is: "Those who stand for nothing fall for anything." I think I learned this information from British quiz show Only Connect -- but, prior to this, I was only aware of the misquote. I believe the misquote may have originated from the Christian community, but I don't have the information to prove this.

2023-09-29 15:22:24 +0000 UTC“Delvaux” is slightly older than Hermes. Goyard is older than all of them, but would be considered more of a “luggage” company rather than a full service “luxury goods” house until the 1900’s. It’s 8am and I’m already high, rambling in the comments.
