EARLY ACCESS: The Hunger Games FULL REACTION

Well, folks! This was an interesting one indeed! Very intriguing story. Very curious how this will turn out. The guys have mixed feelings in their review, but overall, they are ready for the next one!

Let us know if we missed anything.

We hope you enjoy and as always, thank you so much for your support! See you in the comments!

EARLY ACCESS: The Hunger Games FULL REACTION

Comments

I love oaks opinion on this movie. I thought this movie and story was such a great idea and so well thought so I was really disappointed that the focus was too much on the games. I also hoped for more backstory to the rebellions, the upper class and lower class, the capitalist cruel system and basically the working class etc So I was truly disappointed although I LOVED the idea. I thought they didn’t fulfill the potential. I’ve watched the second one too, it was a little bit better but still too little organization, mobilization, solidarity, unity and rebellion 😂😂 but I guess I’m just too much of a revolutionary who wants to smash this working class exploiting system 😭 I’m gonna watch the rest of these movies with you guys. So I won’t be disappointed, no matter how good or bad the other movies are xD Love your reactions!!!!

Shirin

Oak is a deep thinker. Watching his progression when he watches something that really catches him is half the fun. When he watched Harry Potter he started off not liking it and now he is deep in the lore and is the biggest Potter buff.

Midgey_M

I'm new here, but damn, The Appleton Oak, he talks a lot. Nobody feel it?

Chris Sk.

I loved the first movie. But I had read the books before I watched the movies. Oak's responses always surprise me. Especially since he is pretty stoic during the reactions. Kids killing kids didn't bother me when I read the books or watched the movies. That already happens in real life. If anything. I like the fact that it still disturbs people. That shows that many people still have their humanity and haven't completely become desensitized to murder.

Ashley Downey

I am a cynical person for the most part. I love the Hunger Games series surprisingly. It shows what could potentially happen. I like dystopian series for the most part.

Ashley Downey

Right LOL!!!!

Nick

The actor who plays Marvel from district 1 is Jack Quaid, he plays Hughie from the boys. Looks so young in this movie lol.

Koifull

Finally watching these 🤗🤭

Sarah

Ohhhh. That explains it. I keep pausing my Netflix so your version can catch up. 🙃

JennaB

Worth watching just for Lenny Kravitz! He is way cool!! Jennifer Lawrence was the main character in Winter's Bone which came out before the Hunger Games and was excellent in that film also. She is a very good actor!!

DrEEsky

Awesome! I'm glad your first watch will be with us 🤙

Badd Medicine

I've never seen these before so I decided to have my first watch while i watch yours!

Brittany Lewandowski

Thank you! We appreciate it! And the support here on Patreon!

Badd Medicine

Loved the reaction and revisiting the film. I don't think I've seen the other installments so looking forward to them even more. I also really appreciate the fact that the reactions are now available on the vimeo site itself and downloadable. This way I can watch them in VLC and easily resize the window to watch it on one screen alongside the film.

Dasypodidae

Interesting. We might have to check that out.

Badd Medicine

There is a map somewhere online showing where the districts would be in the US. Woody, I believe were talking to sponsors to get Katniss the stuff she needed. Also, I think District 1 is the Capital, but I could be wrong.

Anika

Oh bummer. Wish there was something we could do. We apologize for that inconvenience.

Badd Medicine

Oh weird. I'm in Canada so we don't have the same streaming options. Every other video of yours that I've watched is good though! 👍

Allie Drew

We have seen that different platforms stream a little different from each other. This was watched on Prime. We know HBO MAX is an interesting one for everyone.

Badd Medicine

I was watching on netflix. This one was the only one I had an issue with though.

Allie Drew

Hello Allie, are you watching on a stream or DVD?

Badd Medicine

Im not sure if its just me but I had a hard time pairing the timing of my stream to yours. I kept having to pause mine because its almost like your movie was playing on a slightly slower setting so that even if I got them exactly synced, after like one minute, your movie would be behind mine by a few seconds and would keep getting further behind... weird.

Allie Drew

Our pleasure! Glad we are able to bring some laughter and bring a little joy to you🤙

Badd Medicine

Thank you for making me laugh "Toby is free" - this was so needed. After a week in retirement home and a lot of people down with covid again... Which always makes work hard. So laughs help!

Dara Jeeling

Happy to help🤙😁

Badd Medicine

Okay thankyou for getting back to me

Pork o clock

Hello, this is a watch along format. This is because of copyright laws and we do not own this property. There is fair use of 10 mins. Which we do stay under and utilize so everyone can sync their copy. Every reaction channel (almost) will have this format. This is to protect us so we don't lose Patreon and YouTube channel. We do have this labeled in the tier structure.

Badd Medicine

Does the sound not work for anybody or do they not watch it where we can hear the sound?

Pork o clock

Looks like Wednesday 🤘🤘🤘

Badd Medicine

Great info here! Next one drops this week🤘

Badd Medicine

Full Potter head now

Badd Medicine

When next ? Tuesday or Wednesday?

Lock_Down

Badd Medicine

oak talkin about reading the HP Books now... we've created a monster folks We've created a monster!!! lol

Lyonheart86(BryonH)

Something that they leave out that I think is really important going forward is the injuries they get. Of course there is mental issues from the trauma, which they explore, but physically, both of them were affected. Katniss, after the sound from exploring the food and gear, goes deaf in one ear. When they win, she gets a hearing aid from the Capital. Then with Peeta, they actually amputated his leg after the games because it didn't heal correctly. He as a prosthetic in the rest of the books. I always wondered why they left these out of the movies.

Ophelia

1. Lots more Sutherland to come, and for movie 2, another "That Guy" I'm sure you'll love to see! 2. Easy to miss, but Foxface (the red-haired girl) was the one matching all the plants on that screen during the training. She knew the berries were poison and decided to die that way. 3. The books definitely have a lot more detail in terms of the lore and rules of this universe, but a real strength of the films is their perspective. The books take place almost entirely from Katniss' point of view, so all of the interactions happening outside while she is in the Games (Snow and Seneca the Gamemaker, flashing back to District 12, seeing District 11 riot, etc.) aren't there!

b

Oak is right. this movie exactly sets out to make us hate the games. you will get to know in next movies.

Lock_Down

Coming soon 😁

Badd Medicine

Second is the favorite! I'll be eagerly awaiting that one.

Jennifer K

She really was!! Can't wait for y'all to get into those movies. Personally, not my fav BUT the US school Ilvermony has houses you can get sorted into from online quizzes as well. Plus, always fun expanding on the lore / world.

Angelina

Lol... Classic villain

Badd Medicine

Also, the actress that plays Clove (the career girl that throws knives) is the main character in the horror movie Orphan. Cracking up when you guys were commenting on how she was talking too much. The typical villain downfall.

Ryan Chan

J Law did really well in this

Badd Medicine

I was finally able to watch it. I love the books and I really liked the movies, Jennifer Lawrence does a great job at Katniss. Can't wait for Catching Fire, it's my favorite book of the trilogy. This was a fantastic reaction!

patricia jimjimcherie

Haha good ol Thor

Badd Medicine

Yes. Never seen it. We've heard of it but never seen it.

Badd Medicine

Pirates will happen 🤘

Badd Medicine

ol josh was in the red dawn remake with liams brother fun fact

Lyonheart86(BryonH)

Lol... Definitely playing around when we say "rip off" but we haven't heard of that movie

Badd Medicine

Zoey was great in The Batman and didn't know she was in FB

Badd Medicine

Thank you! Thanks for watching🤘🤘🤘

Badd Medicine

I can understand why you were upset.

Badd Medicine

Haha let's hope the week goes fast

Badd Medicine

Oh yeah... He's in the 2nd book 🤘

Badd Medicine

Thank you for this info🤘

Badd Medicine

Great info here. Thank you.

Badd Medicine

Quentin said that Battle Royale was one of his favorite films but, it is extremely gory and disturbing, I don't think you guys would like it. It has also the same concept as the Hunger Games, and the latter has received a lot of criticism for "plagiarizing" the concept and the ideas.

L AH

Oh i've been waiting for this im so excited to see you guys go on another film journey. The second one is my favourite though i love the tone of this first one the most. I hope you guys also do the Pirates of the Caribbean movies next because the story through the trilogy is just a amazing and ofc course the humour and visuals are incredible.

Alex Turnbull

Also: I'd say Josh Hutcherson's most memorable role (other than this franchise) was when he did Bridge to Terabithia as a child actor. Also, also: Lenny Kravitz is definitely one of the top 10 coolest people ever! Can't wait for y'all to see his daughter in the 2nd Fantastic Beasts movie lol

Angelina

INCREDIBLE, my guys!! On YouTube, our boy MovieFlame does a bunch of videos on the characters, background, the books, etc. Definitely check out his stuff or maybe even react to some of the stuff here. Amazing info - especially with the prequel book having recently come out. Lil insight: the author based this off of the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur.

Angelina

Kill Bill Series should be watched series. I don't think Battle Royale would be a good movie (I have a feeling Oak would really hate it).

Ryan Chan

Yeah, but the movie doesn’t glorify class inequality. It puts that on blast and makes it look ugly, as it should look. It is clear from the beginning that this is a class war, and these teens just have to survive it.

PaulaC

Also, the fact you all of you were predicting correctly what happens was insanely on point (Katniss gets an 11, Neosporin ad, Katniss/Peeta finding a loophole). Are you guys sure you watched this the first time? P.S. One of you guys brave enough to do a Seneca cosplay (beard and all)? :)

Ryan Chan

Yeah I wouldn't say Oak doesn't understand the concept. I think he just doesn't seem really into that concept and a bit turned off by it. Which kind of makes sense, and in all honesty kind of should be the intention of the themes types of movies (glorifying a hunger games/squid games). Oak seems to really does not like class inequality/suppression.

Ryan Chan

I can't believe you guys also watched the condemned movie with Stone Cold Steve Austin! But in terms of the Hunger Games being a rip off of the Condemned. I want to say both of them took some inspiration from the Japanese Movie Battle Royale which is a hunger games for a high school class. I will say that Battle Royale is incredibly graphic and over the type (feel like Oak wouldn't really be into that).

Ryan Chan

Great reaction guys, Can’t wait for part 2!

Ebony

I heard Quentin Tarantino got inspiration from Battle Royale. He cast one of the actors from it for Kill Bill.

Ebony

So glad everyone is helping fill in some of the gaps that the movies left from the books. Love the reactions and I'm really happy you are doing the Hunger Games. Just bummed I have to wait a week for the next one.

Sarah

When Rue died in the book, you get to know her so much more, I literally threw my book across the room. I didn't pick the book back up for a week. I mean obviously, she couldn't live but it just hurt far too much.

Vanished

In the books, Haymitch is described as looking like Katniss and Gale. It's only in the movies that he's "lighter".

Dafydd (he they)

And Oak mentioned he s reading the potter Books yeay.

Erna Gustiawati

Thanks for the reaction, great as always.. Don.t get discouraged guys as always. Until next time.

Erna Gustiawati

To answer Oak's question about the Capitol and the districts... The country of Panem is broken into 12 districts and the Capitol. Obviously the Capitol is like the government, the rich, the ones who are in power. And as for the districts, they all have a different function... District 1: Luxury District 2: Masonry District 3: Technology District 4: Fishing District 5: Power / Electricity District 6: Transportation District 7: Lumber District 8: Textiles District 9: Grain District 10: Livestock District 11: Agriculture District 12: Mining As you can see, the further you are from the Capitol, the harsher the life is, as in work, sustenances, health, etc. Each district provides something to the Capitol. They keep control on the districts to keep that totalitarian regime. Which is why they do the Hunger Games...to make people fear but entertain the rich. Pretty sick shit. Effie Trinket, you should keep an eye out for her. See how she behaves in the next movies. I personally love her. Also, on a more personal note, Rue's death always upsets me. Her dad starting a riot is heartbreaking and I bawl everytime :(

Miss_CJ

Woah, to each their own really.

Miss_CJ

I love Oak's reactions. To each their own I guess! :)

Alex Perez

There are a ton of class divisions. Even in district 12, the lighter complected people (like peeta, katniss’s mom, and haymitch) are from a higher class than the darker complected miners in 12. Gale, katniss’ dad, are just dark haired. They made a point of saying that katniss’ mom married “down” to be with their dad and that’s part of why she was so broken when he died in the mine.

Melanie P

As far as sponsors go, each district has one male and one female previous victor serve as mentor for their tributes. District 12 has only had 2 winners ever and Haymitch is the only surviving one so he has to mentor both every year. He won the 50th Hunger Games so this was his 24th year as mentor. It's made him pretty bitter and cynical because 12 almost never has the capability that Katniss brings. In the book, Katniss was sent more gifts. They sent a picnic for the two of them for example. Haymitch has a lot to do with that. He collects money from sponsors and he determines what is sent in. Inside District 12 there is also a class system. There is the seam, which is where Katniss is from. It's the poorest part. There is the merchant class, where Peeta is from. His family are bakers. Katniss's mother was from the merchant class. Her parents had an apothecary but she fell in love with a man from the seam. Even the merchant class is poor, just not as bad off as the seam. Love this series!

Angela Solano

Awesome info here! Thank you!

Badd Medicine

Thank you for this!

Badd Medicine

We are looking forward to the rest as well!

Badd Medicine

Interesting. Never heard of it.

Badd Medicine

Let's goooooo 🤘

Badd Medicine

Thank you! 🤙

Badd Medicine

👍😁

Badd Medicine

Hope you enjoy! Let's goooooo 🤘

Badd Medicine

YESSS ITS HEREEE!! Been waiting. Not in the best mood lately but the themes in this movie are so relevant!!

takfogger

been refreshin since yesterday waiting for this one lets go!

oryanz

Love the reactions!!! You should check out the Japanese movie “battle royale” which apparently is what the hunger games is based on. It’s a more brutal version of this movie and it’s epic

Pratish Lakhani

I’m sorry, but who doesn’t understand this concept? It’s not that hard to get.

PaulaC

To be fair, he also conceded that he wasn’t sure if he actually didn’t like the movie or if he just didn’t like the concept behind it. And if you can remove any subjectivity you have to admit that the concept behind this series is pretty horrific - 24 kids being put in an arena to fight to their death for the entertainment of a higher class? It’s pretty gross. Add to that the missing detail and nuance from the book that fills in gaps from the movies, and it’s understandable that a first time viewer would feel confused and unsettled.

TE

Thank you for all of this information! I have not read the books (because I reread The Lotr and the Hobbit all the time 😒)

Tyta

Me too ❤️

Tyta

This is why I like you guys so much. You tell the truth, and let your "then and there" feelings shine through. I think Oak often needs some time to really feel the movie. I did not like the first movie either 🤷‍♀️ I did not quite understand it. But I too had to watch the next one. And then, of course you have to watch the next one 🤣 Hope you will enjoy the next ones. Either way, I enjoy watching you react 🤟

Tyta

This story grows into something very interesting. I'm looking forward to how you all will feel about this after the final one.

NS

the books of this series are phenomenal. for getting your name put in the reaping: 1 time when you’re twelve, 2 times when your 13 and so on until 18. however if you need extra rations of food for your family you can essentially “buy” food by entering your name in more. which is why Gale has 42 entries for this years games, he has lots of siblings and they need the food. Katniss is district 12’s very first volunteer out of all 73 previous games ever. for the class system: yes the capital is the richest and the powerhouse. districts then get poorer as the numbers go. so upper class, middle, lower class types. districts 1 and 2 volunteer themselves as tributes and are known as the “careers” bc they train their whole lives for this. Panem is what is now modern day north america. you may have missed during the reaping when they explain the war that lead to how the world is, it says that there *WERE* 13 districts, keep that in the back of your head. each district has their own niche. you heard about coal mining for 12, but others include district 1 that manufactures luxury items for the capital, district 2 is masonry; district 4 is fishing (you get to meet my favorite character next movie who is from district 4); district 7 is lumber; 9 is grain; 10 is livestock; and 11 is agriculture. did i miss any other major questions??

keara king

With all major industries privately owned by wealthy Capitol families under state oversight, Panem operates as a semi-feudal fascist state. Each district is assigned a particular industry, and citizens have little freedom to choose careers outside of their district's designated industry. Free markets outside of the Capitol, such as the Hob in District 12, are illegal, though some grey market exchange is tolerated. All trade and commerce between the districts is generally forbidden, as most of the districts' produced goods are sent to the Capitol. As a result, a majority of the districts live in abject poverty with the exceptions of Districts 1, 2, 4, and 5. District 1's industry is manufacturing luxury items. District 2's industry is masonry, but also manufactures weaponry, makes trains, and supplies the nation's Peacekeepers. 1 & 2 are Career Districts in the film, but in the books, District 4 is also a Career District. District 3 is Technology and Electronics. District 4's industry is fishing. District 5's industry is power. District 6's industry is transportation. District 7's industry is lumber. District 8's industry is the production of textiles. District 9's industry is grain. District 10's industry is livestock. District 11's industry is agriculture - orchards and fields of grain and cotton surround the district. Almost everything grown is shipped directly to the Capitol. It is one of the poorest districts in Panem, second only to District 12. District 12's industry is coal and is located somewhere near what was the Appalachian mountains. The district has the distinction of being one of the poorest districts, if not the outright poorest, in all of Panem. Before Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark won the 74th Hunger Games, the district has not had a winner of the Hunger Games emerge from the ranks of its residents for twenty-four years since Haymitch Abernathy, won the 50th.

Dafydd (he they)

Yess I cant wait either

NMIKK _

Great reaction! I love the next film Catching Fire, can't wait for you guys to react to that one.

Katherine Rodriguez

That's fair to feel that way. I can't speak for him, but that's fair 🤙

Badd Medicine

That's good. I know during Potter we seen a lot of comments of things being left out

Badd Medicine

Haha! Let's goooooo!

Badd Medicine

Oak is the worst. He hates every single first movie in every series. It is exhausting to watch him hate talk everything and then eventually like it. He was the most animated person in this reaction and then said he didn’t like it. It is confusing and exhausting.

PaulaC

Oh i read the books first and I was seething. So yes. The movies are doing a pretty good job of adapting the books.

Melanie P

They can also put their names in for extra rations of food for their families. So Gale has put his name in extra times to get food for his family.

Melanie P

Souzouki with souflaki, chickenfilet, black angus, gyros and kefthedes with some tzatziki sauce. Also known as a greek feast :-D

Lifehouse

GET IT!!! or..whatever the kids are sayin these days

Lyonheart86(BryonH)

Let's goooooo 🤙

Badd Medicine

Im so happy!! I was waiting for this :D

Esther Montes

Hell yeah! Whatcha got on the way?

Badd Medicine

That's fair Aaron. We appreciate your honesty.

Badd Medicine

Yeah.... I'll probably be skipping this series....Dystopian fiction in general doesn't do much for me. It's too cynical. This one in particular is like, really? Child gladiators was something that the winners of a war came up with and no one on the winner's side said "how about no"? It's just a ridiculous premise.

Aaron

Good timing bro's I got food on the way 🤘🤘
