This story was loosely inspired by a favorite slasher movie of mine, The Stepfather, which is very fun. I'd highly recommend it if you ever get the chance to watch the original 80s version.
Not a whole lot to say about this one besides that, but I hope you enjoy~

Thank you! I had considered giving her a name, but then I realized it wasn't really necessary at all for the story. The actual conflict is between Andi and their stepdad, with the mother being (figuratively and almost literally) a prop. She's just his housewife now, nothing more~

Sometimes I also watch a cool movie and wonder if there’s a possible Stepford angle to it (so Escape from New York -> Escape from Stepford and randomly Alien Covenant -> Stepford Sisters). I love Andi’s nameless mother. “The housewife who used to be her mother” is such vivid, perfect phrase that conveys the beauty/depth of her transformation and the underlying horror of that. When she acknowledged the existence of her former feminism but describes it as the worst shame of her life: Amazing! She really gave everything to the her new patriarch — even her name! Only ever “his wife” from now on. Love that complete and total, permanent and willing subjugation
