Good point. You'd need some pretty narrow tolerances on some parts so that you can maintain steam pressure. It could be that that's a similar skill/technology to making a precisely detailed die for a printing press.

Just a quick question (maybe I understood wrong). If you think that Romans are not able to produce precise machinery tools for printing press, they surely cannot produce a steam engine. Or am I wrong in my assumption that steam engine requires precise machinery parts (I would say say even more complex than printing press)?
