Af, The Devil - WiP 1
Added 2022-06-19 14:05:15 +0000 UTCThe themes of the devil card led me really quickly to illustrating Af, Angel of Anger. His self inflicted suffering is a perfect fit for my interpretation of this card.
For this piece, I wanted to reveal his eyes and having him looking right at the viewer, inviting them to relate to the discomfort Af is experiencing. Everyone seems like they are trying to make rational choices to avoid suffering, but there is always a shadowed part of us that leads us back towards harmful choices. In Freudian psychology, this is called the Death Drive or Thanatos.
It's cards like these that make Tarot scary for some people, but I've always felt it's important for us to observe every aspect of our inner lives in order to get a clear picture on how to improve ourselves. Getting to know our inner devils might be the only way to keep them in check.
