Simikiel, Sword of Absolution - (Value Phase)
Added 2020-09-28 10:37:42 +0000 UTC2020 is a weird year. Here in the studio things are more or less normal, but I've had moments where I have a tough time getting focused. There was over a month between finishing my last painting and starting this one. When I finally did get started on it, I struggled to begin posting about it.
I wanted to make this painting because I've had a hard time letting go of things. I figured there was no better Angel to embody that idea than Simikiel, Angel of Vengeance.
When I worked up this sketch I had concerns that the pose was too stiff and too plain. To compensate for the simplicity of the pose, I wanted to push the lighting in this piece to do something I hadn't done before. Hopefully it all pans out!

This is looking beautiful! I hope you're doing alright. The expectation to let go of things seems like a big ask to me, but I hope painting Simikiel lessens the edge at least.
