When I'm keeping the values as isolated as I am in this painting, I need to rely on color temperature to do more heavy lifting for me. Having Leliel's blue skin waver between orange and blue tones do a lot to differentiate between the shadowed and lit areas of the painting without having to make them strictly darker or lighter. This is phenomenon that can be utilized to an even more extreme degree than what I'm showing here. Someday I want to see how far I can push it.
