I had the older version of Phanuel up on my screen while I was doing sketches when my wife walked into my office and exclaimed "Wow! You're almost done with this one". Apparently, she has no memory of the older piece and assumed I'd painted it yesterday morning.
Phanuel is from the third wave of Seraphim designs and feels to me to be basically brand new. I was surprised to see that it was originally painted 3 years ago.
What's also surprising to me is that this piece (and many others from around that time) are not in either of the two books I'm wrapping up. Apparently paintings that are 3 years old are too new to be in those books. That's pretty revealing as to how overdue they are I suppose. At least that leaves me with a lot of content already complete for book 3.

This time around I wanted this Angel to feel much more transcendental than the previous iteration. Many of the design themes relate to meditation and contemplation, so it makes sense to create an illustration that feels more inline with the visionary art scene.
Hope you like it!
