" In Heaven a spirit doth dwell
“Whose heart-strings are a lute”;
None sing so wildly well
As the angel Israfel,
And the giddy stars (so legends tell),
Ceasing their hymns, attend the spell
Of his voice, all mute."
(continued)
-Edgar Allen Poe
Musicians have repeatedly sought out my last painting of Israfel but I've always wished I could have a version of it that was more close to the experience of performing music. When the opportunity came around to make a new painting of the Angel of Song, I decided to make a piece for them that they could be proud of. So far, I'm proud of it too.
Sticking to a decidedly classical style for the last painting worked out so well, I've decided to do it again and the results are also going quite smoothly. I couldn't be happier. With tax season in the air and production on my books taking up most of my time, having artwork that is coming along smoothly is a well needed escape/delight.
I stuck to my own advice and spent a good amount of time taking it slow here in the beginning of the piece. That always makes the next steps a lot easier.
