The Lament of Sathariel - Digital Values

The plan was to paint it in oils, a process I started over a year ago. That means what you are looking at here is actually a really old WIP. One that predates the whole Zodiac series.
When the progress stalled out on this, I kept thinking that I was always only a week or two away from getting back to work on it. Recently, as I started to take inventory of what pieces I needed to finish to complete The Book of Watchers. With that in mind, I finally bit the bullet and decided to finish it digitally.
A lot of people have told me that if I finish this piece digitally, I'm never going to complete the oil version of it, which is regrettable, but that consideration comes behind my need to finish this book. We'll see if that prediction ultimately holds true. I really enjoy oil painting, so I would love an excuse to jump back into it as soon as I can be more focused on just making art. In the mean time, I need to finish this book.

I took the rendering on this phase of the painting much further than I normally do. A contributor to the extra polish was the ease I had pinning down the composition. Since I was basing this painting off a classic work of art, I didn't need to do quite as much exploration as I normally do. Having a reference to base so many of the choices on made working on this exceptionally easy.
