Hmmmmmmmmmmm
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

I think this is good?
...
There has been a lot of times I've been in this position. The early value study for this piece totally works for me and I think I understand the piece. In my mind and when I look at the sketch, I see the mood very clearly. But trying to actually push the piece forwards, I get stuck.
Getting stuck on a piece halfway through is always uncomfortable, but it's also been an experience that has preceded some of my favorite works. For now, I'm frustrated by this one. Which isn't really meaningful, it's just the current state of affairs.
My major restrictions are my desire to keep this piece colorful but dark and without reusing the color palette from the last version. That's lead to a number of dead ends as I experiment.
The likely next steps are either:
A: I push forwards, hoping to get some insight as I mush paint around.
B: Peel back the progress to a more satisfying state and continue to experiment.
Part of what takes me a long time to finish paintings is my desire to let these things sit until inspiration strikes. In the mean time, I'm playing around with a couple of side sketches. Maybe I'll work up some more concepts for the other Watchers I need to finish.
We'll see :) It'll all be fine in the end.
