The Watchers are being revived!
Wow. After months of anticipation (on my part), I'm back to working on the black sheep of the Angelarium family. Getting back to doing some darker pieces has me excited. I've been doing moody black and white studies recently and it's been whetting my palette to start a full fledged piece like this.
This painting went from idea, to sketch, to completed value block in very quickly. In just a few hours, I sped past nearly all the road blocks I usually have up front and I'm rolling into the final steps of the process. Theoretically, this piece should be in color when I finish it, but I might just do limited color. I'll play around with my options and see what sticks. In the mean time, I'm excited to start playing with painting some textures.
The reference folder from the original Baraqiel painting was still lingering around on my dropbox, so I was able to quickly get some fun ideas started. In there were some really cool reference for some textural tricks I never got a chance to try.
It's happening you guys! This book is gonna get done!
