The colors on this one really vexed me. I wanted earthy tones and gold and white and other stuff... I didn't end up recording the many layers of poking and prodding at this piece. Wanting to take it on a lot of directions, while wanting to keep it cohesive led me to push back and forth in an uncomfortable way. Sometimes when a piece gets like this, I dive into my reference folders looking for an artist who I admire to show me a solution that would work. This time, I didn't find anything that fit.
In those times when I feel unworthy and the solution to my problems doesn't present itself, I just try to hold faith that the process will carry me forwards. Spending time with the painting and letting it tell me what it wants to do is the final option and it's often the best option. It's a good thing I left myself time this month to make that happen.
