Late last year I was commissioned to create a traditional painting of Sathariel but rather than recreate the digital painting, the idea was to create a new illustration of him.
This project has gotten pushed back due to anxieties about successfully completing a piece in acrylics or oils. The amount of times this piece has gotten delayed has brought me to a point where I either need to start working on it or I need to cancel it.
The idea I'm putting forward to the commissioner is to do this painting as a tribute to a classical painting called The Lament for Icarus by Herbert James Draper. I wanted to do this both to help create a strong foundation for the painting technically but also thematically.
We'll see what they think. If they go for it, this will be the next piece I do after wrapping up on Muriel.
