Going light on value meant that I needed to go heavy on color. The color variation is what is driving this piece, so figuring out interesting ways of twisting oranges and blues together is what is going to make or break this thing. It's fun! I am sneaking away from other responsibilities to jump into this, which is always a good sign.
If you are aspiring to be an artist, my first and last recommendation is that you find a way to love the process of making art. In troubling or stressful times, artwork can be an escape. In good times, it can be a grand revelry. Continuing to learn this lesson is my lifelong goal. Finding your way back to loving artwork is a never ending chase and potentially forever fulfilling.
