Without a clear plan on how I want this lit, I'm defaulting back to comfortable solutions. In this case, I want to focus instead on building in the crucial symbolism to support the figure rather than worry excessively about a clever execution. The dial that I added here was planned from the beginning, but I didn't draw it in due to my lack of proficiency with technical line work. The shape masks I used to create the smooth and even edges of this version still feel off to me, so I'm considering building the dial in Sketchup to get a more accurate representation.
Around the rim of the dial is an ideal place for me to create meaningful writing in Angelic Script. It may be a good place to indicate how numbers are being represented in this language.Overall, much of this piece besides the color and texture are already laid out. Anyone looking to these posts for insights on my painting process should take note of that. I've omitted any loose, fruitless experimentation from my posts, but there wasn't a lot that needed omitting. The majority of the editing happened between the word associate phase and now, with very few drawings needing to hit the garbage bin before settling on something I'm happy with.
I hope that going into these deeper dives on my work process is something you are into! It's my goal these days to provide a better experience for you patrons, so if you like these sorts of posts. Likes and comments help me know that you do!
Best,
-Pete
