Getting the drawing and laying this one out was easy but starting to pin down the details is proving tougher.The first time I made this painting, I spent 3 years erasing, reworking and updating parts of it. It went through 11 major revisions before finally getting finished. I'm wondering if some of that residual difficulty still haunts this design. Trying to balance the color palette feels like balancing a stack of plates. Just trying to get this jpg posted required me to strip away all the color layers and reexamine how it was coming together.Hopefully, nothing scary will happen between now and when I reach the finish line on this one. I'm leaving for Dragoncon in 9 days and I need to balance the production of this piece with my preparation for that event. Though, I refuse to rush any of these, so I'm doing my best to find ample painting sessions amidst the madness.The one major concession I am making with this one is to keep the design relatively similar to the original. Design tends to be the slowest part of the process for me, so allowing myself to skip it has allowed me to get to this part of the painting in short order.I'm excited to bring this one back in line with the rest of the series. Shouldn't be long now...
