Chapter 55: The Battle of Quantora Village
When the alarm rang, Cecile and her team gathered before the gate with their fellow soldiers. At a distance, soldiers lined up.
“That’s Latvin’s main army.” the beastmen said.
“What the hell, they didn’t even wear armor. Are they trying to pass on as civilians?” The general was confused, but Hiro knew Latvin had adopted a modern type of combat.
Soldiers no longer wore heavy armor and instead, they invested all the iron they had into guns and bullets. Some rough linen and possibly leather armor was all those soldiers got. Even if they wore armor, these peasants were low level and could never stand toe to toe with real knights that had received training.
Part of Hiro still questioned whether what they had done was truly effective. This world has status. People could break stones with their bare hands.
Latvin army began to march. Seraphine stood at the center of the army. Ralph had taken extra precaution as he covered Seraphine with full armor this time. Hiro couldn’t help but frown at how this world didn’t obey the law of conservation of mass. A horse was perfectly fine when seraphine was on it with Ralph inside him. But when Ralph turned into full metal armor, the horse could no longer support him. Seraphine had literally become heavier.
By the way, hiro could also do the same. In fact, those iron he had stored, could weigh tons. However, neither Rebecca nor Marissa ever felt any change in Hiro's mass until Hiro extended his tentacle.
Hiro then could infer that all the mass inside the system was not existent. Only when it was manifested would it truly affect the real world.
Seraphine raised his red sword, several red spikes sprouted from his back. Then, he unleashed fireballs from the tip. His body was blazing brightly. The marching latvin’s quickly scattered, breaking their orderly lines.
Hiro thought it was over, but it didn’t. Those latvin soldiers scatter and ran towards them, bringing their muskets with them. Hiro was amazed at their numbers. There must be at least 5 thousand people there.
How could they convinced these latvin’s soldiers to charge ahead like that? Most people would be afraid and try to run away from fire.
When they had reached a hundred meter mark, gunshots began to pop from their muskets. The bullets richocet away from seraphine’s armor as expected. It didn’t harm seraphine in the slightest.
Then, Litmus’ knight began to chase Latvin’s mustketman. Latvin’s musketman began to retreat in haste while reloading their muskets. Despite them being lower leveled, due to the lack of armor, they outrun litmus’ knights. Then, several gunshots resounded,
A hail of bullets rushed toward the charging knight. One didn’t downed him. But it was enough to injure him. Then another bullet hit him. It bounced of the armor. Then another hit him in the eye, the knight screamed as bullets tore his right eye, blinding him.
Similar events happened to other charging knights. The bullets didn’t defeat knights like what Hiro expected in italian battle on earth. But it was enough to cripple them. It was one thing when you use kiting tactics against monsters but it was another thing when it was used against yourself.
Nevertheless, Litmus was winning. Seraphine completely dominate the battlefield as ralph blazed his artillery cannons on the retreating latvin’s soldier. Since they were retreating and kept their distance, there was no friendly fire on litmus side.
Then, hiro saw a grass swaying through Nana’s eyes. Another looked like it was being stepped on. Hiro immediately took action. He relayed his thought to Cecile in an instant. Thanks to his new skill, there was no delay. Jonathan was cunning and cautious. Even when he had invisibility skills, he took measure to stay away from seraphine’s gaze.
But Hiro had multiple eyes. It was harder to get a jump on Hiro and he was cautious enough not to let even a grass skip pass his sight.
He extended his tentacle from Cecile and made an arrow before Seraphine’s eye.
Seraphine darted his eye from latvin’s soldiers and to where Hiro had pointed his arrows. There was nothing there, but the through experience and seraphine skill, he knew something was there. He fired a fireball without hesitation,
“Nothing?” Seraphine asked.
“No. We scratched him. Our aim was simply a little off. I felt some feedback from my fire.” Ralph said.
“We won’t let him go this time! AARGGHH!!!!” Seraphine said as he roared, he then blew several more fireballs to the location where Hiro had pointed out. Knowing it was not a fluke, A black shadow appeared amidst the raging flame.
Seraphine then drew wings from his back. Coupled with his red armor, he looked like a devil from hell. The fiery flame that wreathed him enforced the image.
“If Lord Seraphine could fly, why didn’t he do it from the beginning…” Cecile muttered. The answer came to her moments later as Hiro immediately retreated his tentacles inside Cecile when he felt the heat.
Seraphine couldn’t fly. The wing acted like a rocket jump. Hiro immediately knew the limitations when he saw Seraphine jump toward the black shadow and struggle to stop. Seraphine then raised his fiery sword and slammed it toward the black shadow.
The black shadow tried to defend with its bone dagger but ultimately failed. The flaming blade went through the shadow, bisecting it into two halves.
But there was no Jonathan inside. Through Nana’s keen eyes, Hiro saw that the black shadow was merely a husk. Hiro immediately scanned the area and found another invisible shadow. It was close! Approaching Cecile.
Hiro immediately roused all of his tentacles from his girls. Elysia, Nana, and Rebecca. He then made a huge arrow above their heads. All of the girls was far, but with such arrows, Seraphine couldn’t help but notice them.
But it was too late.
Hiro shot his tentacle, coating the tip with sharp iron pikes, only for it to bounce harmlessly off the invisible shadow. The invisible shadow showed itself. Like grim reapers, it brandished its bone daggers like scythes. Cecile defended with her buckler and sword. The dagger cut through them like paper.
Hiro then stabbed itself to the ground, pulling Cecile backward as another dagger went dangerously close to her throat. The sudden movement threw Cecile off balance and she fell on her butt. The shadow didn’t waste any time and plunged its bone dagger straight to Cecile’s heart. Hiro could feel the horror as Cecile gasped.
Hiro wanted to rush his tentacle to her. But he held himself back. Jonathan was still here. It didn’t even take two seconds before searing heat caressed hiro’s tentacle. Seraphine had arrived at the scene. His blade carved the air like a hammer of justice.
Hiro wanted to complain as the searing heat from this devil had prevented him from healing Cecile. But luckily, Jonathan had retreated with Seraphine chasing after him.
Despite the usual seraphine’s gentle nature, his form right now could only be called a devil. He now sported a long sharp horn on his head as red dragon wings sprouted from his back. His roar sent shivers of fear down to Hiro's tentacle and he was glad Seraphine was on his side.
The heat had cauterized Cecile’s wound, making it harder for Hiro to heal her. But it was not too late. Hiro was able to regenerate her heart and connected her new heart to the slightly charred vena cava and aorta. As blood pumped through her vein again, Cecile's breathing stabilized.
Meanwhile, the battle had reached its peak. Seraphine was relentless. His anger fueled the flames as his surrounding grasslands became scorched earth. Ralph transformed him further, Seraphine grew two or three sizes larger, his neck grew longer as rows of teeth jutted out from his mouth.
Seraphine went berserk. He was too close for Jonathan to flee. If he turned tail, Seraphie would cut him down in a blink of an eye, so even as he retreated, Jonathan had no choice but to keep his gaze at Seraphine as he blocked strike after strike from Seraphine, the god of war. His bone daggers clawed its way through Seraphine’s armor, but Ralph had made sure none ever reached Seraphine himself.
Nevertheless, Jonathan couldn’t win a straight match. He was slowly but surely being overpowered. Smokes rose up from his black suit as his black symbiote cried out in pain. An opening soon came and Seraphine didn’t hesitate.
“AARGGGH!!!!” Seraphine roared as he pushed all of his strength in one final strike. Cleaving Jonathan in one final strike. The black shadow roared for the last time before it lay motionless on the field.
Seraphine then turned toward the retreating latvin soldiers. Their weapons might be new, btu the era hadn’t changed. Symbiotes still ruled the battlefield. Once the enemy symbiote users had fallen, the battle was lost. This doctrine remained true.
Seraphine returned back to his kind old self as Ralph retreated back inside his body. He dropped to his butt sigh as fatigue had finally caught up to him. Knights chased the retreating Latvin soldiers with their horses leaving the battlefield barren except for the few defending armies..
The battle was over, Litmus had won.
“Cecile!” Nana came over as she saw Cecile lay on the ground. Weak, and with a hole on her leather armor and breastplate. Her plump breast was in full view, with some scar remained.
“Ah… nana… Sorry. I am a bit weak, could you help me stand up?”
“No need. I will carry you.” Seraphine came closer as he offered to carry Cecile to marissa’s manor. Cry of victories Resounded in the battlefield. It no longer concerned Seraphine, he had done his duty. He had slain enemy’s symbiote.
It might be unbelievable at first, but this is actually seraphine’s first time slaying other symbiote user. Seraphine didn’t feel joy nor elation at such fact.
When the sun began to set, soldiers raised their cheer across the street of quantora. Enemy’s symbiote users had been slain. Villagers offered the returning soldiers with beer and fruit they had harvested and soldiers raised their fists in triumph.
“All hail Lord Seraphine! He had slain enemy’s symbiote user! The first symbiote slayer in our era! Everyone, Raised your cup to our lord!” The general roused the crowd of soldiers, but seraphine stopped him.
“General and captains, I might be the one who deals the killing blow against the enemy. But remember, this battle could not be won by me alone. Without Hiro and Cecile, I might be the one who perished today. And so, I forbid you to cheer for me alone.” Seraphine said. “You must also cheer for Cecile, Rebecca, Nana, and Elysia. For they were the one who spotted our invisible enemy.”
“Hurray!!!” “Yeah!! We have two symbiote slayers!”
“Hiro is amazing! He healed rodrick!”
Comments began pouring out from the soldiers about Hiro's deeds. Hiro felt ashamed, but he certainly welcomed the praise.
The soldiers partied until morning, with lots of enemy’s newly crafted guns in their possession.
Hiro thought he was finally able to let out his pent up desire against Cecile and Nana, but alas, they were tired so the abstinence play continued.
