the first photo of this album is quite possibly my favorite photo i’ve taken of anna. this weekend was wildly special in so many ways. this was the first large scale event i’d ever organized—35 folks of all levels, some who came solo and some paired, some who’d never touched rope in their life, some with many years experience, gathered at a retreat center a few hours drive upstate for the weekend. i don’t joke when i say it was positively magical. the main rope area was completely outside, in a covered area with rough carpets and several bamboos. the rest of the grounds were the perfect playground — a sauna, a swimmable pond, a cozy yurt, some adventurable woods, this wonderful metal sctructure you see in photo one, all perfectly acceptable to be used for rope shenanigans for the entirety of the weekend. and aside from an evening of not so warm rain and a yucky bee sting, there were no disasters, no drama (am i pessimistic for assuming there would be at least one?). you’re lucky to have missed my tears during the closing circle—i felt so gosh darn proud, so grateful.
a huge shoutout to anna, who endured 9? 10? suspensions over the course of three days as the worlds best demo bottom and rope partner, and my designated emotional support human over the course of the weekend. and still somehow our scheduled “rest times” turned into the ties you see here.
i’m currently sorting the details for take two of this retreat for 2024 labor day weekend. i won’t be using this site to announce events, but i will tell you that tickets are already live and it will absolutely sell out. if you think you might be interested, send me a dm ❤️
