Anyone here vintage enough to remember a pixel art-based visual chat site with multiple *environments" which had their own *rooms* — called The Palace… iirc? Mid- to late '90s. My buddy and I would log on and draw on our totally radical shirtless bro 64 x 64px (or w/e) avatars and then "walk" around the nightclub or tropical beach, essentially just typing a/s/l along with everyone else, for hours. There were "adult" rooms with pixel boobs and pixel dicks. For a middle schooler in 1998 or '99 it wasn't unwelcome. Everybody was basically 11~22 to maaaybe 16? it seemed like. (Or at least claimed to be.) It was kinda like a free, busted, proto-version of Second Life I guess. So anyway that's immediately what I think of wrt nsfw pixel art, even nearly… 30 years later!!? 💀🪦👻
