2025-08-23 14:53:24 +0000 UTCI just read today about one of the whale sharks in the Georgia Aquarium, Taroko, that was euthanized due to "medical and behavioral decline despite veterinary care interventions." They said they're planning on doing a necropsy to see what may have played a role in the medical decline and to further study whale sharks. I can't imagine what system they use to get them considering the tanks are gigantic, but they have manta rays, belugas, and whale sharks so it must be something crazy

2025-08-23 03:57:33 +0000 UTCThis might be an awful question, but I'm very curious: what do Zoos and other facilities due with an animal when it's died? I'm especially curious about large animals like elephants, hippos, animals that can't even be moved easily. Also is it normal to do, like, an autopsy? Do Vets just handle this whole thing?
