it is really funny how hard some people try to deny that queerness and queer behaviour is a naturally occurring thing, not something being influenced by "the devil". But homophobia aside, it's not too surprising considering for the longest time science and academia refused to accept tool making bahviour in animals, and refused to accept higher levels of intelligence in animals. Simply because these were the things that made humans human and different (better) than other animals. It is sad how much our own biases and assumptions have hindered important research and discoveries about our world and us as humans.

So so happy to see asexuality spotlighted on a pride-related episode, asexuality is often overlooked but it is absolutely 100% a part of queerness and pride. Loved the entire episode obviously, but made me so happy to see you guys talk about asexuality!!! 🖤🩶🤍💜

My grandmother used to go out every evening and kill those snails with a knife to protect her garden, she just cut their head off. (She did not want to use pesticides).

Maya compares a bonobo's ability to use matches when taught with a 3-year-olds ability to use matches naturally. 3-year-olds are generally told to stay away from matches, so it isn't a very good example for comparing intelligence. You can absolutely teach a 3-year-old to use a match and roast a marshmallow. The only thing that might be impossible to teach a 3-year-old is how to strike a match, but that's mostly because modern matches are specifically made to require more strength and dexterity than a 3-year-old possesses. These limitations would not apply to bonobos, which are stronger and more nimble than a 3-year-old. Even ignoring all of this intelligence is not the same as being able to follow directions to a desired outcome; someone can be extremely intelligent but still completely unable to put together a bookshelf with an instruction booklet.
