I learned about Greater Sage Grouse lekking during my ornithology course in my undergrad—all the males just go out into a field to strut around and show off to females. Only two-ish males in a given lek actually successfully mate each year.

2024-05-13 15:44:26 +0000 UTCLots of birds have leaking behavior, like prairie chickens and wild turkeys. They're pretty easy to observe in some areas but some species are easily spooked and the lek might scatter when they notice people. We have wild turkeys all over my city and the males here don't seem to care if a bunch of people are walking by their groups.
