2023-04-24 11:49:38 +0000 UTCLove the points after the special. Thing that has gotten to me recently the most is people unpacking their jokes before they tell the joke. It's catering to the people who are there to hurt them looking for something to be mad at, to prepare them that "hey, this thing I'm about to do is just a joke so relax." Now to satisfy a malicious attendee or listener to try to prevent any sort of backlash, they've destroyed the entire surprise. So now not only do they not find the joke funny, everyone else gets a diminished experience and it's not really that funny to anyone. Just for maybe more valorous reasons to the person you were trying to protect yourself from, but with all the energy of the joke being sucked out it never stood a chance to be funny.

I always thought, "maybe I didn't think he was funny as a kid b/c I just didn't understand the context surrounding the jokes." Nope. I got it then, I get it now, but aside from a few good points he made, I barely even find it entertaining let alone funny. His shrill voice and inability to put the proper ending on any words or sentences got annoying pretty fast and overall I thought it was boring.
