FurCan 2018

After being 10 years in the fandom, here in Mexico there had never been convention-like events since just last year began to emerge. If I wanted to go to conventions, I had to travel out, travel to North America.

Even though I have always been very active in the community, attending furmeets, making good friends both local, as well as inside and outside of my country, I really dreamed that we could have events like Anthrocon or FurCon at some time.

Last weekend (July 20-22, 2018) I attended a first edition of a convention in Mexico: FurCan. In the beautiful city of Puebla.

With a very short quantity of attendees of barely 80 people, it completely exceeded my expectations. The attendees were very excited, many of them were attending at their first furry convention in their lives, and most of them were very excited to see fursuiters, who maybe we were only 8.

Being so few, I had the opportunity to talk with many people, to know much better talented artists such as Tigerlion, Cross from Gab Shiba, Lobbo, Arty & Chikle, among others.

The event included very Mexican things, such as closing the event with piñatas, and a very dangerous rain of pins that launched from a third floor.

I look forward to FurCan in 2019, and I wish the event grows even more and more.

We had a little adventure before arriving at the event. Supposedly we would arrive on Friday afternoon in Puebla, and that same day we would do the podcast that Koidel, Apolo and I do every Friday. But when we were in Mexico City, Apolo's car (with which we would arrive in Puebla) broke down, and we had to go to his house to change it. So we caught the traffic of the city, and we couldn't stop for dinner (we were still hoping to arrive before 10pm to Puebla to be able to reach the radio program.) We better resign ourselves not to arrive at time, and we prefer to stop and buy pizza and having dinner on the way, we arrived in Puebla until midnight.

By canceling the Friday show, we decided to move it to Saturday. It was titled "Viernes Furry pero en Sábado" (Furry Friday but in Saturday).

On Monday we returned from Puebla to Mexico City, not without first visiting the cathedral, trying some "cemitas" (a very yummy thing from Puebla), and letting Alf give us an express tour around his beautiful town.

20 years in the furry fandom

That's right, on August 3 of this year I will be exactly 10 years as an official member of the furry fandom, even if I've been a panda for 20 years (or at least that's how old my panda character has been). I have a post prepared that I will publish exactly on August 3th.

Will there be a celebration? Oh, yes! And a very VERY BIG ONE. Called: MEGAPLEX !!

It is a great coincidence, I was invited as Guest of Honor for this convention, located in Orlando, Florida. And this convention will begin just on August 3, the same day I met the furry fandom (which I did through a meeting of artists, I didn't find it online).

And here I will describe some of the activities that will occur on that day:

Megaplex 2018

I have never had so many events planned in a single weekend as it is from August 3 to 5.
Not only I'm excited, I'm also very nervous, because I and the stages where a lot of people can see me, are not get along quite well.

The first thing that will happen on the day will be to be present at the opening ceremony. I still don't know if I'll just be there, or they'll make me talk (surely they'll make me talk), but I agreed with NIIC, the other Guest of Honor of the convention (a very talented musician, I highly recommend listening to him), to attend this ceremony in fursuit. So you will see the derpy panda bear on stage to start the event.

Dealer's Den

Another great event will happen on that first day, during the dealer's den, table number 30, new merchandise will be on sale with my art, like t-shirts, stickers and prints. But it will also be the premiere of my first art book. There will be very few copies, so I recommend acquiring it from the first day.

NOTE: I will almost not be at the table, and I won't be taking commissions during the convention. If you plan to buy the art book and want it signed, I recommend buying it from the first moment (even if I'm not at the table), follow me on my Telegram channel (https://t.me/panda_paco) and there I'll let you know what time I will be at my table, only to sign books and sell merchandise, but not to make commissions (I'm so sorry)

Box of lies

It will happen the same first day: Friday, at 2pm. Moderated by Blitzen and K.P.
It will be a very funny game where the participants (in which I am included) will determine if their opponent is telling them the truth or a big lie about the contents of a mysterious box, which can contain anything crazy.
This will happen at the Main Ballroom.

Meet the Guests of Honor

Meet the guests of Honor, at 5:30 pm on the same day, in the same room as Box of Lies. We will be NIIC and myself, in an event moderated by K.P., where we will answer several questions, we will talk a little about our career and some probably funny experiences (I need to think on a funny experience). And the public will have the opportunity to ask us any question. There we will not be in Fursuit, we're attending this panel on our human disguises.

Viernes Furry: Charity edition.

And to top off the big anniversary day with a flourish, we will have a special show on our weekly podcast, where instead of podcast, we will stream with video.
During the stream, we will be handling donations boxes for the charity of the event, the C.A.R.E. foundation, dedicated to rescue wild animals and educate people to take care of them.

All those who give donations during the stream, will be given a special Viernes Furry item, exclusive from Megaplex.

Charity auction

If you want to buy an original Paco Panda, which will also have a lot of meaning, and certainly much more value in the future (hehe, let me dream!), You can do it at the charity auction, which will take place on Sunday, August 5, at 11 am, at the Megaplex Main Ballroom.

Three original drawings of mine will be auctioned, plus a small exclusive item of my 10th anniversary in the furry fandom. (Which won't be for sale on a regular basis, only to be purchased in this auction).

And finally, at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday August 5, I will run an educational panel of drawing, entitled "Switch-On to the mode: Drawing", where I will try to teach about how to draw with the right hemisphere of your brain. This small lesson will be useful for all those drawing or aspiring to the drawing, it doesn't matter if you consider yourself as a beginner, intermediate or advanced.

There will be many very exciting events, the truth is that I am quite nervous about what will happen next weekend. I hope you can accompany me, those who will attend Megaplex, in Orlando, Florida.
