FINALLY WE GOT SHELBY'S BACK STORY OMFG. it was a lot worse than i expected. i feel really bad for Shelby. this episode was incredible.

I think you misunderstood a few things, Shelby getting the implants for her teeth would be genuinely painful and dangerous, at the beginning her parents were actually being good parents and saying not until she's finished growing because actual professionals said not to. But then at the end, her Dad agreed to let her get them, not out of guilt, but because of the "If something can be fixed, then the pain is worth it" thing. It was a metaphor for her being gay, and how a little pain could fix that in his mind. I took it as more of a threat than anything, or a bribe. Also, she already had a boyfriend at the beginning of the episode. She mentions him at the Bowling Alley when Becca is taking her shot, she's talking about how she should've invited him and how he has his own ball and everything and that's when Becca sees her step brother. And her saying she can't wait to get back to her, that was about who she was at home. She was lying to herself. Basically saying that she couldn't wait to go back to her life off the Island and just pretend to be straight and the perfect Christian girl her Dad wants her to be... In the Kitchen, when Shelby is trying to get her Dad to talk to her and all that, when he finally does he says "I don't hate anyone. I pray for everyone. Even if they don't deserve it." Which is exactly what Shelby said to Toni. And then in the scene between her and Becca where she says all that stuff, Becca tells Shelby "I see you" which is something Toni said to her pretty early on in the show. Just some "fun" parallels there! Haha
