Their mother was an addict and clinically depressed and neglectful. When she didn;t pick the kids up, Daphne did it for her, get groceries? Daphne did it, pay the bills? Daphne. Lola also had problems with addiction and mental health, but she wasn't quiet about it, she was loud and honest and inconvenient, and as a result (as far as I think she sees it) they sent her away to rehab or a mental health facility or something inpatient. As long as the mom kept quiet about her illness they ALL kept quiet about her illness. Lola got loud about it and they sent her away. even now the dad and Daphne like to pretend everything is okay, Daphne loves her friends but doesn't want them to know the truth about her family, it embarrasses her. Lola is scared to be vulnerable by letting people in... but so is Daphne, it just looks very different on them both. I think Lola sees her bluntness and anger as "honesty" and it is... but it's also not the whole story.
