They tweaked a lot of the ending so that Season 6 could be a thing. You think people would continue to watch if Bobby, Castiel, AND Sam were gone? If the show had ended at 5 I can see them staying dead/gone but now that we're on Season 15, you couldn't have gotten there with just Dean.
