It took me a while to come up with an interesting overall design for Map06 - both in terms of aesthetics, objectives, and the actual level design that will bring everything together.
Coincidentally, this map will be a literal Dwarf Fortress - yes, I know the previous one also had a small fort in the middle, but this will be an entire map dedicated to dwarven military architecture.
Not surprisingly, some of the key ideas I have for it came to me while trying out the recent Steam release of Dwarf Fortress - one thing in particular was me being constrained to build a fortress inside some sort of tall island bordered by canyons. I figured this kind of terrain would totally exist in a cave, and although it will be very difficult to pull off, I do believe I can wrangle Trenchbroom into making such an environment for Haggard.
What you see in this image is part of the access to the fortress - I like to imagine that you're part of an invader force, and you have to make it through a funnel of deadly traps through wit and acrobatics to make it inside.
It's interesting to think how I could use Dwarf Fortress as a sort of concept tool for Haggard, though I don't think this will be viable for future maps. Still, it was fun.
