Comments

Keep the truth flowing Joey. The world needs men like you. I don't go out anymore and this helping in keeping me sane these days

I say you throw together some testicular snipping videos together and put Tool to it. Any song but Anemia fits well.

TikTok is going to hold a prominent place in my manifesto.

Things I’d like to see made well today? Music. Ha! But in all seriousness, this is a reason I really like Italian culture. They revere vintage and take care of their things. Items in the home are cared for and used for generations and restored. They keep the echo of the past. I am so over the plastic, wasteful, disposable life we live. Screens make me claw my eyes out. Makes me think of the book One Second After, where an EMP hits and the world comes to a screeching halt…except for things like classic cars.

Stephanie LeVeque

And there isn't but a handful of people under 30 that can actually physically make a product anymore that is useful to civilization.

Charlie

Just bought a house. The home has the original furnace in it (heating oil furnace). It works fabulously. It's 70 years old. There is not a furnace company out there that makes a furnace that will last 70 years +

You guys should read the book 10 Arguments For Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now by Jaron Lanier. It's interesting because the author is one of the founders of VR. There's also a lot of footage of the same information from this book for free on YouTube though I still recommend reading the book.

Jeanette Yarbrough

In college no less. I even have to pay for the digital copies, and if I want an actual physical copy of the book, I have to pay for it in addition to the required digital copy.

Michelle Moore

They make you read on a tablet in school? Yikes.

Joseph P Borelli Jr

Salut Loretta!

Joseph P Borelli Jr

I cannot stand that my text books are all electronic now. There's something to be said about having a physical book when you study. I retain the stuff I learn much more than when I read off of a screen.... It's so cold and disconnected to read digital copies.

Michelle Moore

I think there are plenty of issues at play. Some of the biggest is that schools no longer inspire and more than ever indoctrinate the kids. No longer are people allowed to be independent free thinkers, exploring their imaginations. These days you have zombies looking for the next trendy stupid thing to come up and jump on. Their creativity is eating tidepods for views instead of building something great, changing peoples lives for the better or even inspiring youth to not just look at their masters, but to look within themselves. I pray our youth start to wake and see these things.

Christopher Goyra

Well that’s what you get when the world popularizes shut from the chinese. A censorious platform designed to weaponize peoples stupidity and narcissism.

Schmuckulon McFuckey

Especially houses. We lived in a beautiful 1940’s bungalow type house in a historic neighborhood in Oregon and the craftsmanship of the house really made it comfy and homey plus was so welcoming and inviting 😍

Ya know Joey I love your realism 😊 you’re still a young man and the things that really matter to you are so beautiful and refreshing. I’m a young 😉67 year old woman that has seen and been through a lot of era’s and pretty much agree with you on every turn (actually don’t know what I do not disagree with you on)! Anyways thank you my fellow Italian New Yorker for bringing truth into the spotlight in a good and right way🙌🏼🙌🏼🙋🏻‍♀️ I appreciate you, keep it up. Cheers!! Loretta~

Loretta Roche

Your collection sounds like a dream! I've always wanted to make money to collect things from the old era. I once went to the middle part, like mountainous part of Vietnam and went into a café, super old-school looking and the bartender showed me a couple of hand-painted poster and embroided tickets to a theatre show. Still searching for an actual job to afford those though.

Bat2leShe2p

I’m a huge fan of antiques. All my furniture is antiques. I collect old kit tools and have a great collection of antique cookbooks. I’ve recently started collecting and listening to old records from the 20’s craftsmanship is what I crave.great show.

Chri

What I admired from the past: mindfulness, popular music performed by real people and instruments, not everything designed around cars... I with you 100%. I always seek elegance. For instance, I got myself a classic shaving kit, for the art of shaving. No plastic. Locally made cream brush made from old pressed skateboards which I plunge into classic creme. I can never go back. Same thing with freshly made pasta with an Italian machine. It takes one hour, but you never want to go back to boxed Pasta.

Georges

This feels like ancient history: "Billie Eilish is speaking her truth in a new Calvin Klein ad by revealing the reason behind her signature baggy clothes. In the brand’s all-new campaign, dubbed “I Speak My Truth In #MyCalvins,” Billie explains that she doesn't want the world to know everything about her, so she relies on fashion to protect herself. “That’s why I wear baggy clothes,” she says in the ad, which also features Noah Centineo, Shawn Mendes, and Chika Oranika. “Nobody can have an opinion because they haven't seen what’s underneath. Nobody can be like, ‘she’s slim-thick,’ ‘she’s not slim-thick,’ ‘she’s got a flat ass,’ ‘she's got a fat ass.’ No one can say any of that because they don't know.” As noted by BuzzFeed News, Billie’s revelation has sparked an ongoing dialogue on social media about the objectification of women’s bodies. Many fans are loudly supporting Billie’s reasons behind her clothing choices, with some expressing that they whole-heartedly relate. “The fact that Billie Eilish wears big baggy clothes so that no one can make assumptions, judge, or body shame her makes me love her as an artist and as a person even more,” one fan wrote."

Lance Romanoff

I would love to see basic manners make a comeback. People always appear shocked when I say please & thank you.

Jayne Marshall

Loved the longer episode! Should definitely do more of these!

You’re absolutely right about modern stuff not being built to last. I work in vintage engine restoration, specifically magnetos, these were little generators that made sure you would have spark ignition without a battery (still used on some garden machinery). Some of these things are 100+ years old, most lasted a good 50yrs with good maintenance. They’ll last even longer now because materials technology has moved on, but it’s not an easy process to rebuild them correctly, my waiting time is around 6 months, but people are always looking for a quick fix. I’d say a good 30%+ of my work is putting right other peoples work because they rushed it or didn’t know what they were doing. It’s a dying art, & at 43 I’m seen as a youngster in the industry. I’m Old Iron Engineers on Facebook for anyone interested, but I’m in the UK, so I doubt I’ll get any business here, just if anyone’s interested to see what I do.

Za chvíľku je to aj u nás :)

Branislav Ballay

I guess that's fair...However I will say that even though Lindsey Stirling ranges in genres, she is classically trained and writes her own music...

Bonnie Melinda

I appreciate ya Očami! I'm glad you're getting a good laugh at our circus over here. I know I sure would if I were far away from it like you!

Joseph P Borelli Jr

Yeah, they're both excellent players but not exactly classical "composers" 😅 But still great recommendations 👍

Christian

Hauser is good. He plays Cello https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1t24rK4JM4 Lindsey Stirling. She plays violin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftHXZ4x3CjE

I had to subscribe to your Patreon, I just need your content, hands on table it is better than any movie that was filmed during the last 3 or 4 years. I got my beer, legs on table and laughing my ass off at this particular piece of art you created recently :D We do not have this level of insanity in Slovakia, but man... I am watching it coming slowly but surely. You were born for this, never stop, you are the advocate of sanity and it is hard job. *flying away to finish my beer*

Očami Čarodejnice

Black.

Joseph P Borelli Jr

Your parents raised you right! It would be cool to hear about your childhood and how it influenced your career path today. Thank you for speaking up and making light of these topics in a humerus way. If you're interested in vintage collections of the sort, in Delaware, a must see is the 'Winterthur Mansion Museum'. Look it up, It could be your next stroll down history trip!

Emerald Obrien

Joey, what's your favorite color to wear?

Amanda-Magdalena

I would love to see real artistry in music come back. I was born in the 80s and I love 20s, 30s and 50s music. I fell in live with the fact that singers have enough talent to sing live with live musicians. I loved that lyrics had meaning and soul. These artist had a true commitement to the craft. Now its more of a commitment to the fame, the social media, and the recording label.

Kathryn

Everything has gone to shit. I saw an Instagram video of a woman holding her baby, and beside her a toddler watching “mommy” putting dinner together which looked like the most unwholesome ingredients that barely resemble food into one big pot like she’s feeding cattle. What happened to mothers or anyone putting love and time into cooking? Oh right… modern feminism. “Interesting” how so much started going wrong when you took women out of the home.

Robin Johns

The thing about interiors of old trains is that they look and feel really comfy. There are a few wagons of an old army Marshall at display in my town. I just wish I could have experienced train rides that way. Also I really like whenever I see an old wagon in a movie or a show with their little cabins and restaurant wagons. Same with bookselves. My uncle has an old shelf that fills the wall of one room. I loved to just look at ot and explore the drawers everytime I visited him as a kid.

nÄsh

Thank you, Joey. I love old stuff. Books, furniture and clothes... Greatings from Germany

Sabrina Winchester

Great t-shirt

Robert Kempf

No problem Joey... awesome I noticed you gave out an address to send mail to. So, I may have to ship you one. Car, plane, truck....whichever...they all move too, all have hand carved wheels haha.. solid wood. From back when he was a kid. He remembered how to make them. All made from 1 piece of solid wood. Not bad for being 90 yrs old.. Oh.. and dinosaurs too.. I kept a few, as a memory to have.. He has plenty though! (keeps his mind busy) he would surely love for anyone to have one. :) And yeah.... vinyl Hands down! Others can have the downloads. I'll take the records any day.

Pam W.

As an author, I'd like a return to books with meaning and beautiful prose. The fantasy genre (and most genres these days) is loaded with filth, excessive cursing, and absolutely no aspirational messages. I'm an indie writer, but my dark fantasy series aims to combat these disturbing trends, and I'm already enjoying responses from readers that seem to indicate I'm succeeding!

Raynelle

Thank you Pam. Yes I'm addicted to vinyl too. I'd love to see one of those toys your grandfather makes!

Joseph P Borelli Jr

You just mentioned one of the things I collect. Vinyl! I have so many boxes of vinyl mostly rock. I am a rock chick. But different decades. Then again any music that's actually music is good. Vinyl just sounds amazing!! So much better than digital downloads. Can't even compare. You mentioned Tool. I grew up in the 80s and 90s. As someone who plays drums, (acoustic drums, NOT electronic drums , no thanks) Tool is definitely up there. And you being banned from the dreaded Tik. You should be proud of that! I'm glad I joined this today.. Well done. As always.. Speaking truth. And you're right on old school. My grandfather is 90 yrs old and still makes wooden toys by hand. Takes some skill. And he's 90! Wow. So much for the "I lick weird stuff and sound disgusting. " Keep at it Joey. Maybe I'll send you a hand carved wooden car. (He says it keeps him busy and out of the nursing home) I'm not far from Florida. Not all of Florida is like that. But probably soon. Since society wrecks everything!South Georgia is not much better.

Pam W.

I appreciate ya brother

Joseph P Borelli Jr

I don't listen to much modern classic composers 😅 but some that come to mind would be Stravinsky, Penderecki, Einaudi and probably the most famous being John Williams. When I listen to classical music I usually listen to Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven etc.

Christian

Cheers my friend

Joseph P Borelli Jr

Id love to see that. I had no idea there were even modern “classical” composers who record music. Any recommendations?

Joseph P Borelli Jr

No its actually a yellow and black one. No russian

Joseph P Borelli Jr

Does your rotary phone actually have the Russian alphabet on it, like in the video? Because that would be cool. We used to have one of those back in the mother land.

Tatyana P

Or the roaring 20’s like in the Great Gatsby

Tatyana P

Great podcast! I've been watching your stuff on youtube since September of last year and recently subscribed to your Patreon. And as for me I would love to see classical music return. There are a few classical composers now, but aren't as mainstream as it would've been in like the 1700s, 1800s etc. and because they didn't use auto-tune back then I feel like there's so much more emotions packed into those pieces, and it's nothing like the shite you hear today where people just rap about WAP and twerk their as* off.

Christian

Can we bring back the fashion from the 50's and 60's? Heck, I'd even take Victorian fashion. The dresses the women wore were so elegant and beautiful. Buying a new dress, suit, or pair of well-made shoes must have been so exciting. Something to really save up for because you knew you were getting something that would really last if you took care of it. Shopping now is just a big disappointment.

Bianca

Id love to see it too!

Joseph P Borelli Jr

I love the sentiment of surrounding ourselves with things that inspire us. It’s very true that our souls are being taken away. There’s no pride in anything we do anymore, and it transcends into how our world looks like now. Great message as always Joey.

Celestial Evolution

Joey is just two bushy eyebrows to becoming Andy Rooney for a whole new generation XD

Muhundan Bala

Thanks for a spark of sanity! Cheers from Prague

Aloha Burn

Incredible post, thank you for being the sense of normalcy in these times. I would love to see a return of great art and music. I think anybody with any sense of taste can recognize how pathetic art and music has become...

Vikram

Fantastic - and Joey doing his best George Carlin impression in the RayCon promotion bit :)

Henry McGuinness

Analogue recorded music on tape. They used to cut it at a 45 degree angle and paste it together to make the final take. The angle was what we call a cross fade now. I miss the warmth of analogue music ... not everyone could record music in there bedroom. Now every bit of shite music is recorded and released .. look up charcarron on YouTube, should have never been recorded .. 51m views.

Jerome

Joey becoming an old man before our eyes. All these problems you are discussing are related to population size and free market capitalizism. Stuff is made fast to make a buck. And you sell that thing to more people and those people will keep coming back in larger numbers. We have more money and more access to money than any time in history. So quality is replaced with quantity. There is no scarcity. Without scarcity nothing is valued. Without values, mediocrity breeds. That is what we are all seeing today. Will this ever correct. Not without a population reduction and serious economic recession over very long periods of time. As always time will tell. You can't know peace without war. Thankfully there are still people in this world that recognize quality and values like you. Keep up the great work.

Sergio Batista

Tell me about it

Joseph P Borelli Jr

I tell you Mr. Joey, I really miss when architects made buildings that were works of art and functional for the purpose they are built for.
