The Morning Rant #6: Nobody Wants To Work Anymore

Today we explore my Red Lobster and Subway experience.

The Morning Rant #6: Nobody Wants To Work Anymore

Comments

I learned long ago that this Gen Zero not only doesn’t want to be there but they make a game out of it, particularly in the kitchen area. The owners know this and that’s why they color code buttons and meals. Heavily investing in heat lamps and microwaves, because braindead children can operate those. Anything below 3 star establishments are boarder lining Wendy’s as far as quality meals are concerned. Do yourself a favor, eat at home.

Fred Rogers

Love the rants Joey. Your voice is really great for this and I crack up every time when you use your "comedy" voice.... I don't know... if it wasn't for the hilarious commentary, I don't think I could watch / view this complete nonsense! 🤪

truck6867@rocketmail.com

The only jobs that Gen Z do are TikTok videos & OnlyFans.

Matthew Chance

Mr Squidward?!

Headen Cloud

I still remember being pissed at myself for not moving out until I was 19. And then, I didn't just move out, I moved 6 hours away to help make sure it stuck.

Maria B

Different forms of culture yes, but this is also what happens when a country full of privileged children run around online 24/7 and think “I’ll just become internet famous so I won’t have to work” comes into play, parents also could give two shits about their kids nowadays unlike when I was a kid and even then parents didn’t care about kids at least some of my friends parents were either to drunk to notice they were not home or they were in and out of foster homes because their parents got them placed there…. In America and what the American dream was about was to have a beautiful family, a nice big family sized house to pass down towards future generations, and have that white picket fence but also since our people have sold out our country (and I’m talking politics and government) we’re all moving towards this digital AI shift that is also being fueled by lazy, unhealthy, can’t think for themselves, can’t even bother to get out of bed half the time matrix slaves, that will bow down to their master when they are called to do so… but see because there is still a vast majority of people who still remember what it’s like to touch grass and can think for themselves and know how to support and guide their friends and family we know when they’re is a time to draw a line… there really is a big difference in SOCIETY and in certain modernization of CULTURE, that is different all over the world, but the most “praised” kind is that of the American /Westernization way even though we’re seriously screwed up and clearly need a miracle to change all these degenerates into actual functioning and purposeful independent human being, and not cry about how hard a 10 hour shift is to a bunch of people online who either already lived it longer than them or just don’t care because it’s not happening to them

Brandi

Well Jordan this day and age notice of leaving a job isn’t really required. In the days of loyalty yes it was required. But now if you put in lets say a 2 week notice at a real job they immediately call security and you are escorted off the property. Notice is a form of respect. No company on earth, especially major ones like UPS for instance has any respect for their employees. You are a number, that’s it. You drop dead, there’s 15 idiots lined up to take your place and their world keeps right on turning.

joe lynott

This is the only video I disagree with. The problem is, CULTURE plays into this. I’m Filipino and the majority of us live with their parents up until their adulthood. In my defense, I work and also go to college.

Alyssa Zulueta

Born in 85. Had to pay rent money since 16. My folks were tough on me and told me if I wasn't in education then I have to work. And it set it in just fine. Got my own rented place when I was 18. Eventually got my own house at 27 after saving for a deposit for YEARS and got better jobs etc. This generation are probably lost on saving and building for their future. They aren't looking ahead for their own future benefit. Too entirely focused on social media and how they are perceived by the their followers.

Ian McConvey

I just left the Bay for Chicago....yes, Chicago! Guess I really wanted to get out of there, too. Parents just left Sacramento for Indiana. Midwest is pretty chill, though. It's different and cold, but everyone is super friendly so far.

Kelly

I see it in some places but in others can see a bit of improvement. I agree completely about behavior as I was raised to be that way and even 20 years ago irked people I worked with because I was spot on professional and respectful even though I was working on changing tires and later selling them. I worked like it mattered and that even with not great pay. End result I am happy getting away from the bay area as that place is sliding from its already ugly state. In north Tahoe people seem to be a bit more professional and nice. Sadly its like a cancer though and you can see it spreading.

Christopher Goyra

Yep! See it every time I’m out. Such a sad and disrespectful society ☹️

Loretta Roche

They probably want to get laid, but cant. Most guys struggle on Tinder, the app that’s become the main dating place.

ninja ninja

But why do we blame kids for that and not the media, corporations or society in general that make them like that?

ninja ninja

You make me laugh! The part about Subway worker putting olives on your Dad’s sandwich in slow motion-and you’re already eating-is hilarious!!

Cher Dumas

I found out later. We all make mistakes!

Joseph P Borelli Jr

Blame it on Hype House. Watching that requires a recovery period

Joseph P Borelli Jr

Work ethic and pride in reputation? You’re a rare breed these days my friend. Keep going brother

Joseph P Borelli Jr

It seems to me that mental illness is terribly rampant in America right now.People are losing their minds to the point where they can no longer control themselves in public. Just as I was walking home today, I saw so much liquor strewn across the streets... On the upside, there are still people with their heads on straight. I had a guy even younger than me today school me on my new bike at the shop, he was actually very intelligent and technical.

orfnqoewfoq

Actually I work in the Tax preparation field at the turn over rate has been rediculous here, and across majority of sectors. Giving out a notice doesn't happen anymore, they just quit without notice. This has become a substantial burden on employers to the point where hiring younger people is a liability. It's sad really, and I'm only 20. Will be one of the youngest licensed tax prepares in Oregon soon, and I have self taught myself how to options trade. I find most people my age boring. :(

Jordan Gutierrez

I'm from the UK and we're having the same issue. I've been saying for years that competence is dead in this country. Doesn't matter where you go, if someone has to do something, even if it's just a simple task, there's a very strong chance that they're gonna fuck it up. Most of the doctors in this country can't even do their damn jobs properly...

Scott

Joey bitching about people not wanting to work and not uploading a shitpost in two weeks be like..

Arr Gonoramus

Go so r/antiwork You’ll have fun over there. Almost everywhere I go they’re hiring. One person said that “people lost their dream jobs during Covid and they’re supposed to go work anywhere?” I replied, “If you want to keep your house and feed your kids, yes.” I chose my profession for several reasons, and one of the reasons is job security. People are always going to get sick as long as there’s people. First reason was I wanted to help people, second was independence. Another thing that confuses me is that teens aren’t at the DMV the day they turn 16 to get a driver’s license. I got mine the day I was sixteen back in 1990 and my daughter did the same.

Nurse®™

Just sayin I ain’t taking pride if i work at some place like red lobster, I’d at least do the job well but don’t expect any perks, I’m trying to make ends meet

Tingle604

I see this all of the time and it’s so frustrating. For instance I’ll be out riding my motorcycle, stop for something to eat at a restaurant and the lobby will be randomly closed! Even McDonald’s where they’ve spent good money on kiosks to order on and pay at, it’s absolutely ridiculous and I thought my generation (Y) including myself had issues.

Vincent Thompson

I'm 37 and I still live with my parents. I feel bad about this, but here in Poland it's just impossible to live on your own if you are single. Besides even if you have your own family it's just hard. Yeah, they'll pay you monthly 500zł (about 120$) per one child but everything is so expensive, that those 120$ are just pocket money. And there's one more thing. There's no guarantee that I'll keep my job for years. That's why I live with my parents and pay part of the the bills and don't have my own family. *** I'd like to write about young people like those from customer service you mentioned. This is what you get if you fail as a parent. Parents should teach their kids good manners, to be nice to other people, to say "good morning" etc. But they don't do it... One of my neighbours is a teacher in primary school. His kids won't say "good morning" when they see you and he won't react. Honestly, I don't care but I know what will grow of them. Let me tell you a story. I work at the bakery. My job is compliting orders (for example take 200 breads and give them for the driver to deliver them to the shops). It was the last working day before Christmas so we had A LOT of job (five or even six time more than usual). My boss send one of the interns to help me because I won't be able to do it on time on my own. Imagine this... I'm working as fast as I can and young girl slowly walks towards me. She's not talking, she's just standing there in one place, like some kind of zombie. How long was she standing there? I have no idea. But when I finally noticed her, I've asked "can I help you?". She mumbled "boss send me to help you". Is it really so hard to say "hi, I'm here to help"? What if I didn't react? Probably she'd took her phone and watch morons on TikTok. One day she'll go to work and act like girl from Red Lobster. Moral of the story? If your parents won't teach you manners when you're a kid, you'll become antisocial zombie who'll raise another antisocial zombie.

Paweł Jankowski

Ok serious question. How did you even date someone in their 30’s that was honest enough to admit they were living at home?! I’d be so embarrassed. I guess honesty is a virtue in this day and age. That’s a conundrum.

Robin Johns

You know what Joey, I really wanted to tell what i think it might be fucking brutal i might be in a same position someday which will be Brutal but it is what it is, so the problem will all this metal shit lately and all the sickness and bs stuff that pops, like add adhd ocd Down syndrome and shits like that… because they wanna keep every single fucking person alive with the help of technology, fucking those babys are suppose to be born!!! Decided by nature, thats natural selection, the fucking mom gives birth to a 4 moths old baby and they keep em in all those machines and devices and just doing insane amounts of work to keep a defected fetus alive and bring it into the world so the mom and dad can be fucking happy!! No go adopt a child and youll do 10 times better, the baby will do 10 times better in future, those fucking idiot parents doc says you guys cant have kids, they spend and spend and spend inject themselves with bunch of meds and chemicals to pushhhh that to make it happened! Of course this shits are going to happened, lot of mental problems lot of birth defects… it seems thesedays the only thing fucking humans want to do is go against the nature and natural selection of course we wont defeat nature and natural selection… idk this might be brutal but thats what i think personally. Seriously why do you think shits like school shootings and all those crazy sickness desieases comes from? what happened to that that natural mourning of parents losing a child or a fetus... those are fucked up but healthy, Look so I dont say Im right or wrong about being gay or lesbian, or IDK whatever the hell is out there, let them fucking do it, But please dont fucking normilze that shit! its NOT normal, im not talking about good or bad or whatever, I only say based on our knowledge of the nature and world they are not fucking normal. 1+1 inst 5 or 3 or anything but 2. Dont normilze and golrify those shit, brning into cartoons and special shows and talk about it and whoever that goes against it try to terrorize that person. If your gay good for you, do as you wish, but dont fucking say its normal, or its supposed to be like that, same as other shit that this generation does. Please feel free to roast me or tell me if im wrong or whoever here reads this let me know what you think, I might be the wrong one. Im open for any positive or negative feedbacks. Because the people who like and support you like me, I dont think their metnality is too far from mine. keep it up love you Bro. thumbs up for early 90s and 80s kids.

iglu glue

Try r/antiwork on reddit... Its insane how this generation thinks you can live life for free not adding anything into society. Its like the speech from Fight club... People think they should be superstars but not everyone can be one. You live your life, work, make the most of it. Add as much as you can to the society that helped you grow... They just... Live in social media.

Lech

Yeah Joey, it's not just you, you see that everywhere at least where I live.

♡Blessed_Aria♡

Same here in Europe, since years.

Tony

Joey as usual you are spot on brother. I see what you see everyday.

Kris Kobylski

It is because they want to replace us with robots.

Natasha

Even bigger problem is that education system is in shambles. I've attended college for one semester and I dropped out. I will never return. Why? Because I give them GOOD money. I give them time out of my day to attend. Then? They STILL sent me home with hours upon hours of homework and projects. I HAVE A 48 HOUR JOB ON THE SIDE!!! How is this acceptable to society? And the worst part is, I DIDN'T LEARN ANYTHING! Posh middle class people waste their money and time in college, learn nothing, get some stupid paper that tells them "you can go work at xyz maybe" and this is normal??? Society is in shambles.

Tekdrake

I am 37 and I live with my wife and son in mothers house. Yes, I didn’t save well when I was a teen and older, but we are desperately trying to move out but we just can’t afford so many of the house prices and the ones we do see are snatched from under our nose. When we do finally move in who knows what surge prices and inflation is going to cripple us. Long ago you could make a house work for you, now a days it’s almost a death sentence. I think many people who live with their parents whilst past their early 20s have this issue, some, maybe do simply need a rocket up their bebop’s! 😉

Dominic James

They're probably detoxing from their phones. They're having screen withdrawal and it's exacerbated by their SSRIs.

Amanda-Magdalena

His mom wanted to go to Red Lobster. Gotta take care of momma dukes.

Terry Grant

I agree with a couple of others here, particularly Bonnie. I just turned 24 and I still live at home with my dad and siblings. I do go to work and since my mom passing I run errands and cook the majority of meals here at home, I feel I am essential for that and other things I do daily. Your ex makes precisely the right point, why move out and struggle when you have parents who let you live with them? It makes sense especially in my area where housing is expensive, they have many shitty cookie-cutter townhome developments with starting prices of $600k. Young adults living with parents is actually common in many countries where there are households containing extended families (such as India). When it comes to working, as one other person said, it is understandable no one wants to work these mundane low-paying jobs. I see the consequences of stress and unhappiness at the place I currently work at among the adults as well. I personally am working a side hustle to avoid working a 9-5 simply so I can have the freedom of lifestyle and choice and also the greater income. I do agree though that there is plenty of laziness to find among younger people like myself, my dad ranted about it the other day and it is worrying on many levels. But it is not always the same story.

Aaron Jefferson

(sigh)

Joseph P Borelli Jr

I went to order multi-grain bread once and the guy behind the counter said sorry we only have 7 grain. 👀

Mike B

omg so true man

Nicolas Orozco

This is probably the best time to be graduating and entering the workforce. There's widespread labor shortages in many industries. Good luck!

Patrick Cullen

On this, Joey, you have the wrong end of the stick. Sure, there are plenty of crystal-fragile, lazy youngsters out there. But the reason people are leaving jobs is to jump into better ones where they can actually have a private life to live and they aren't expected to burn out for some gray company that does shit that doesn't matter.

Luis Pabón

Exactly, support local businesses over massive corps with Monsanto, gates chemical poisoned food. Also, I simply don't understand how people can continue to eat at those places with the price hikes going on. The food ain't worth it for that. I remember Canes having the sandwich combo for 6 bucks but now, it's $8.50 no tax. I remember paying chick fil a breakfast for $5 bucks only and now its $8. I also see people paying $90 bucks for some restaurant and they didn't even order that much. Point being, these price hikes and understanding the chemicals these chains put on our food, it's really not worth it anymore. Cooking at home should be the norm and I only eat out at a small local business once a month

Stephanie

I'm betting it's because it's his first job and that he has a goal in mind which includes a reasonable end date for this job. In contrast, in Europe some make it a career as being a waiter pays very well. Service is on a whole new level when you have career waiters, of course expect to pay a bit to a lot more, however the experience would likely be unforgettable.

Georges

Precisely. I avoid chains like my life depends on it when it comes to "full service" restaurants, especially since I learned about all the flavour enhancement that goes into food. They pay like crap, and you are probably the tool of major shareholders who care only about growth. I own stocks; I just think dining shouldn't be part of a conglomerate.

Georges

What do you want? These are mainstream franchise crap food restaurants. Why are you even going to these places? Go to a family owned/ business owned restaurant. That will probably never happen and mainly, you'll be eating better than these most likely super processed food joints. That faster the food, the faster the health decline.

NeatEyez

I was shocked one day when a kid at the checkout was friendly, then he counted my change back to me! I was so shocked . I can’t remember the last time someone did that! I praised him and he looked at me like I was crazy.

MaryAnne Bergeman

What used to be made up over-the-top scenarios in Shows and Video games is now our daily reality

wolkenfrei

It depends also on the country. I am living in cyprus and from 10 the service get a 4-6. Many of them have just lack of competence. Their kinda stupid, hard to explain. But not everyone. On the other side, when I am in north cyprus (Turkish side). The service is completely different. 1000% better. All of them treated me super. I was surprised. And you know what ? This people earn on daily basis 4-12 Euro maximum.

Emre Uysal

As much as I love my son. Human connectivity. I’ve never felt so alone in my life. No one can joke and have a common sense. Logic is out the door. The teachings have removed god from peoples life. And replaced it with fantasy. Kids can’t handle reality. It’s so hard to connect. My nephew that’s exactly what he said, he’s going to play games and be a YouTuber and make money that way. Can’t change his twelve year old mind. I worry for my son, I want to go back to church and find a community. I’m single with a child and ended up back at my bipolar mothers house now by choice. And with the housing and rental prices. I’m screwed at 2 k a month. That’s peanuts when car and insurance is $600 a month. The insurance is high because I’m in a ghetto. My years of customer service never left me. And that’s how you connect. Now, those kids are connected to a device and locked in. That’s it. Unless they’re a special one. They’re sucked in by something. Have you ever tried to take a tablet away from a kid ? Whom the parent gave the tablet to as a baby sitter? This is not what I want for him. Hearing you talk is making me feel pain ; for the reality of things. We are going into a mad world.

Jamee Naylor

As someone who's a Gen Z, I did intially thought of not working a regular job to work to try and work for a job based on my degree as I'm soon to graduate. However, in case I get any rejections from my dream job, I may consider a regular job.

Nana Baah

I'm 32, been working since I was 15 and moved out at 19, so Im not a stranger to work ethic and I understand the mentality of wanting to live an independent life. However I can say that things have changed a lot. Take the five year period I worked at the cheesecake factory from 2013 to 2018 for example. We got paid 3.75/hour but had an automatic 20% gratuity for a 6 top or higher, so we lived on our tips - a couple years in the state suddenly removed that gratuity law so you could get a party of 20 and they could tip $2.00 if they wanted to (and they did) with basically no hourly pay so it turned into this anxious gamble...it's soul crushing and working that hard day after day for little to nothing would eventually make me too depressed to smile. Truth is that towards the end of my time there I'd have panic attacks on a regular basis and often thought that death would be better than to continue giving my life away to some multi million dollar corporation. Luckily for years even before that job I was working on art on the side and eventually that paid off and I managed to make my way out of that life so i could work for myself...but for people who are not fortunate enough to have a side passion, their lives are spent working overtime only to live paycheck to paycheck with little to no return while fucking 16 year olds are making millions on TikTok. So who can really blame them? I blame these companies that make it a lot harder for people to live on their own comfortably enough to actually enjoy life. When my mom was in her twenties she could work at a restaurant and rent a two bedroom apartment in Thousand Oaks California for $500 a month and it's just not like that anymore. So, people probably are suicidal to be honest. I worked in customer service for 13 years - I feel a lot of sympathy for anyone who is stuck in it because with how far inflation has gone over the years I can't imagine anyone is actually happy and its really sad because then the customers suffer too. We wouldn't see so many angry workers if they could actually afford a vacation. Maybe then they'd have some incentive to learn their own bread menu lmao shit...

Bonnie Melinda

Dude you need to relocate to Germany especially Bavaria 😂 zombies are basically non-existent.

Dominik Kunkel

Idiocracy... great documentary.

Joseph P Borelli Jr

You're right. They're zombies

Joseph P Borelli Jr

I hate that shit too man, I prefer self check out honestly. Only difference between me and you is I always speak up. I'm a combat veteran and stupid people give me a short fuse. I feel like nobody is telling them they are dumb and they need to hear about their oblivious behavior. The worst for me is people at grocery stores who block isles sideways with a cart and don't move it when they see you walk up. I don't swear at the people or call them names but I try and wake them up a little bit cause honestly most of them need to fuckin hear it man. I know I'm not alone most the guys I served with do the same thing, maybe I'm just becoming a salty veteran more and more with age lol.

Josh

people might hate me for it but, I think you should start by looking at the parents. They just make them lazy these days. When I was a kid I would get €20 a week from my parents, my lifestyle was more expansive then that. So I worked every week so I could afford my lifestyle. These days I get the feeling parents would just give them more money.

Stijn Van der Veken

You can't spell apathetic without pathetic. These slack-jawed ambitious-less zombies are driving our civilization into an irreversible death spiral. Apparently millennials don't even want to go out and try fuck each other. "From 2008 to 2018, the share of Americans ages 18 to 29 who reported having no sex doubled" -- Insider.com It's like the firmware in their brains that sparks desire and ambition has been overwritten by the last iOS upgrade and replaced with pregnant men emojis and failure. If getting laid doesn't interest you at that age how could anything else. Every monumental feat ever achieved was motivated by the desire to impress and attract someone else. Without that we're just a doomed colony of ants circling the drain.

Terry Grant

Joey, the way you describe these people reminds me of the brain dead hospital receptionist in Idiocracy. Can’t figure out if she should push the button of a knife sticking out of someone’s head or a baby dropping out of a woman’s womb..

Dustin

The biggest thing wrong with this generation is lack of achievement. I was a combat medic in the Army and it gave me confidence. This generation seeks validation through pronouns and another's "validation". That's why they demand it.

VeteranRedBeard

Joey B you are 10000% correct. It's like the walking dead in some of these places. We are doomed as a society with this entitled generation that wants never ending stimulus checks

Vinny Sav

I felt the same Joey and I thought it was just me. No body wants to work anymore. They all want easy money. No working hard anymore. There’s a shortage of staff everywhere, restaurants, airports, grocery stores, you name it.
