Story Blurb: In an alternate universe, Azula is the captain of the Capital City Spitfires, the second-best college wrestling team in the world. The first are the Southside Compound Raindancers: the longest reigning champions in the sport’s history, and the Spitfires’ seemingly unbeatable rivals.

Azula plans to change that. To dethrone the winningest team in college wrestling, and avenge the most humiliating loss of her young career, the ambitious wrestling prodigy hatches a scheme to steal away the Raindancers' star wrestler, thus ensuring victory for her team at this year’s annual international tournament.

But to be the best, Azula first has to beat the best. And she’s about to discover that all the stories about ‘Avatar’ Korra are true.

Author's Note: I have an unapologetic bias for female characters. Part of this, I suspect, is because of my strong feminist leanings, as well as my staunch devotion to gender diversity and inclusivity in storytelling. But, also, I’m just a regular ass, red-blooded, heterosexual, cisgendered, basic-as-shit guy. I like ladies. If you give me the choice between a fun, likeable, complex, three-dimensional character, or a fun, likeable, complex, three-dimensional character with tits - then I want the one with tits. I’m simple like that.

Avatar: The Last Airbender came out when I was in high school (I was just a year older than Katara, my favorite character), and it played a huge role in shaping my bias. It was one of the first cartoons I remember watching where the ladies just felt so effortlessly badass. I don’t think there’s a bad character in Avatar, but Katara, Toph and Azula were easily my favorites. Toph is always a blast to watch in action, Azula is hands down one of the greatest TV villains ever, and I still get chills whenever I re-watch the scene where Katara freezes the rain while threatening to axe the man who murdered her mother. Although I don’t gush about the show the way much of the fandom does, I still consider these three a kind of Gold Standard - not just for female characters in fiction, but characters in general, regardless of sex, gender or anything else.

Korra definitely falls short of this standard - not just the character, but her entire show - but the hate she gets from the fandom is just way over the top. The Legend of Korra is not the original, but in all fairness, that’s a high bar to clear. Neither the show or the character are half as bad as the fandom make them out to be. People need to chill, for real.

Korra and Azula were a blast to write for this one, but Katara, although she’s only part of Azula’s AU backstory, ended up stealing the show for me. I loved reimagining her as the villain of Azula’s story, and the scene where she makes Azula beg for the pin is some of the most fun I’ve had writing in ages. Most of the fight-kink artwork I’ve seen with them depicts Azula on top, but you guys know I love my sexy brown bunnies, so I had to flip the script. Scenes like that one are why I started writing about my kink in the first place ;)
