Am I the Ass Hole? Iv been relistening to all the past Beef Boys episodes. Something I do probably once a year. An episode from the past brought this story back to my memory and I thought I would finally share it. A few years ago when my GF and I were first dating I went to visit her at college. One day she was busy with something for school. So I decided to walk to the liquor store to get some beers. When I got there, there was an obviously homeless man standing directly in the middle of the doorway. This being a college town 99% of the people around were of college age (18-22). This guy was in his late 30s and in rough shape. So already kinda creepy just being there. The homeless man was confronting everyone who entered and exited the store asking them to “Just buy me some vodka”. He began to get more pushy and aggressive towards everyone coming and going. He then approached a group of younger girls and angrily asked them to buy him booze. When they declined he became upset again scaring them. Causing them to have to yell at the guy to fuck off and leave them alone. The bum returned to his post directly in the middle of the doorway. Myself already being annoyed with him and not wanting anyone els or myself to have to deal with him. I decided that I would just buy the guy something from the liquor store and he would probably fuck off. When I went to go threw the doorway he stepped in front of me and asked if I would buy him some vodka. I reluctantly agreed. The bum said he would wait at the door because “They don’t let me in the store anymore.” and “Buy me something good, I don’t want any off that cheap crap!!”. Already regretting my decision I scoff at him and go in. I pick up my beer, go to the counter and asks for the cheapest bottle of vodka they have. The clerk of the store didn’t grab one of those cheep plastic 5th of vodka but instead grabbed a $30 bottle. Before I could say anything the homeless man runs into the store, push’s past me, reaches over the counter, and grabs the bottle. He then sprints out the front door, into the street, and immediately gets hit by a fucking car!!!… The bum bounces to his feet, screaming profanities at the car and runs into the park across the street. Presumably to start guzzling vodka. The clerk of the store said in a rude tone “You better pay for that bottle”. I do. I get my beer and walk out of the store. I’m immediately met by a girl with a disgusted look on her face stating “What the hell is wrong with you!?”. Confused I turn and start to walk. Noticing that the car that had hit the bum had the bumper hanging part way off. The driver now standing outside of her car pin points me and approaches with the same “What the hell!” and “You’re gonna pay for that” (gesturing at the car). Standing frozen and confused I see and feel the piercing stares of disgust and disapproval of everyone around. With a quick “Fuck off!” to the driver of the car I hustle and get the fuck out of there. Feeling upset. I return to my GF’s house and explain the story of my experience to her house mates. Half of them seemed to agree that I was in the wrong somehow! The others shrugged it off as if it were just another day in the neighborhood. Im still confused about everyone’s attitude that day. My only guess is that the bum is a daily nuisance and that the local regulars were upset that I indulged his wants. BEEF BOYS! Am I the Ass Hole for buying a homeless man a bottle of vodka that then caused him to be hit by a car?
