Walk of Atonement

She did not feel beautiful, though. She felt old, used, filthy, ugly. There were stretchmarks on her belly from the children she had borne, and her breasts were not as firm as they had been when she was younger. Without a gown to hold them up, they sagged against her chest. 'I should not have done this. I was their queen, but now they've seen, they've seen, they've seen. I should never have let them see.' Gowned and crowned, she was a queen. Naked, bloody, limping, she was only a woman, not so very different from their wives, more like their mothers than their pretty little maiden daughters. 'What have I done?'

Posting early because I finished it early! Won't be up on social media until the 25th!

Thank you so much Lauren! I remember watching the shows version and not feeling nearly as conflicted about how tragic it was, and I’m glad that I was able to draw my own version and express some of the vulnerabilityI could really feel from Cersei. Just reading this quote has inspired me to go back and finish rereading the books just to get to this part and feel it all over again.

The complete lack of hair really speaks to me here in a way that the tv show never did. I don’t know whether I feel like crying for Cersei or rooting for her or shielding her. But the uplifted eyes, as if the end is suddenly in sight, capture that spirit of eucatastrophe with which grrm imbues his work. Really love this one!

This is such a powerful image. Perfect combination of strength and tragedy that screams Cersei, and suggests broader themes about womanhood. Really fabulous art.
