The King Who Bore the Sword--Sketch
Added 2019-07-30 00:39:35 +0000 UTCAfter putting it off for a very long time, I finally started this piece I've been wanting to do forever. I was recently very inspired by the promo photos for the new Witcher series (which I am very excited for) and I saw a lot of Daemon Blackfyre in some of those pictures of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. I was also discussing Daemon with my friend Yasmin today and decided to finally put the pen to tablet and carve this out!
I don't know how I feel about Daemon Blackfyre in all honesty. I really think he is a tragic character, and I think that he was essentially a good man...but then I am also a huge fan of Bloodraven and House Targaryen and which makes things even more tragic; I feel like there is a war raging inside of me when I think of him, it's so sad. He's definitely a character I am so excited to learn more about in the future, and once I know the full story I will probably form a stronger opinion of him.
I might do a series of drawings like these of Targaryens, this composition looks very similar to the drawing of Rhaegar that I did in June, so I would be interested in making more in similar compositions! (kinda have to figure out what I'm going to do with that sword though, I want the entire thing to be in the drawing so I may change it's position)

Totally agree. I think that is what makes him so tragic, and it’s really heartbreaking that he came from such noble birth but because he was illegitimate (for most of his life anyway) he wasn’t considered more than a bastard for a while. Definitely an interesting and complex character 🙌

2019-07-30 13:50:19 +0000 UTCLove it! Excited to see the coloured version. I like to think Daemon was more complex than fandom thinks. The Blackfyre cause was Not Good but the man himself was caught up in other people's motivations. Hopefully grrm sheds some light on it
