West New York is not only part of New Jersey, it is also east of western New York. But in Manhattan, what people call “North” is actually Northeast. What I’m saying is that Americans are not a cartographically consistent people.

2023-01-21 21:53:01 +0000 UTCI used to regularly visit a family friend in Newark and it took me a while to wrap my head around a lot of the weird stuff relating to the New York State/New Jersey boundary. Another fun one is that the Statue of Liberty is actually on the New Jersey side of the river, and people from Jersey get annoyed that it's legally in New York as an exclave.
