Chiming in here extreeeemely late to say that you're actually wrong about helicopter crashes. Helicopter's actually can sort of glide if they lose power, though instead of moving forward as they descend like a gliding plane, the helicopter instead turns it's fall into rotation of the rotor blades. This is kind of unintuitive to imagine, try thinking of it as basically each rotor blade gliding in a very fast circle around the rotor shaft, holding the helicopter up and slowing it's descent. This process is called "autorotation", and is actually what Harrison Ford was practising when he crashed.
