Hardcover book design!
Added 2022-04-11 16:50:00 +0000 UTCSo I drew the cover for Mimosa, but that’s the hardcover jacket which means I get to draw SO MANY MORE ELEMENTS for this book. The book under the jacket can be any color/design. Since the jacket is a dark green, ombré with the characters on the front and back, I’m thinking of playing with these two designs. The first is of the dance night Grind that the characters put on. Grind is in orange, dancing people in green. The problem is that maybe it looks like the name of the book is Grind, so maybe I’ll replace the balloon words with Mimosa. But does that make sense!?!
The second is a play on one of the original cover designs I sent in. I like the idea of the book being a stark white under the dark green jacket. The inside pages (the page that’s attached to the hardcover case) is going to be orange so I think it’ll pop. I really enjoy this simplistic design, thinking I won’t put the name of the book on it at all if I don’t have to (or only on the spine).
I still need to make the front/end papers (the orange ones attached to the case). I’m thinking of a brunch scene. I also can add a spot illustration to them, something to lead into and out of the book. I’m currently drawing a blank on what this should be, maybe the two mugs my characters drink from (worlds most okayest parent/the rainbow mug every that every gay owns). But idk!
