Writing update - 11 Jan
Added 2021-01-10 23:16:24 +0000 UTCBook 2 is progressing nicely. To meet pacing issues as previously discussed in a prior post, I have needed to write the first 20k words from scratch.
To date, I have 30k words of Book 2 that have had one pass of self-editing through them. My writing approach is
1) Dictate the first draft,
2) Correct dictation and add flavor.
These steps are complete for the first quarter of book 2. Then after waiting two weeks to freshen the mind, my process is
3) Re-write and add scenes as required
4) Run through ProWritingAid
This means by the time I publish a chapter I would have read through it at least 4 times and it will still have numerous grammar mistakes and typos. I am obviously trying to improve that, but at some point, humans will keep reading what they thought they wrote and multiple re-reads won't pick things up.
After that, I am at
6) Reflect on any feedback each chapter receives
7) Professional editing
For Book 1, I am completing step 6) the reflecting feedback step while choosing an editor for step 7 (This looks expensive but will improve quality going forward).
Regarding feedback, the current areas of concern are: 1)Adrian's arrogance around the Bird spotting him in Stealth and 2) Issue with the tone through the first third of the book. I will look to make Adrian a little more sympathetic through this section to address that specific feedback. Finally, there are several grammar issues/typos that have been picked up, which I have not fixed yet which will be addressed.
I will post book 2 Chapters first on Patreon before any free sites. Initially, the gap will be small, but I expect this to extend over time till there is a couple of weeks delay.
