Age of Bismarck Release Date & July Crisis Update - State of the Podcast Address 23 August 2024
Added 2024-08-23 05:30:01 +0000 UTC
After a crazy two months, it's time we had a chat.
In this episode we'll be talking about the Age of Bismarck Patreon series, which has been advertised for years, and requested for even longer. We finally have a release date, and I can't wait to welcome you all to Bismarck's world.
We also talk about the July Crisis series, how it's gone for me so far, and why I feel compelled to change things up. We get a bit personal, but I've never been shy about being honest with you, so thanksss for your patience and enthusiasm!
WDF is entering an exciting new phase, but we have to make sure there's a proper balance between Zack's life and Zack's pod-baby, so that we can do justice to the fascinating projects we have in store for you. See you all...soon!
Except for two days. The day JC was born and the day he died.

Thanks so much Marian, I really appreciate your kind words. There's no tougher boss than yourself, especially when you're a one man show. Perhaps I set the bar too high at times, but I have too much respect for my listeners to let them down, or let the quality slip. This can of course seem like a double-edged sword at times. It has been something of a learning experience, but the last few months have really shown things in greater perspective, and I am trying to be kinder to me for a change :D
Indeed, the internal struggle is real, but support in moral and financial forms from history friends like yourself really does make the world of difference. From one geek to another, thanksss

Dr. Zach, you are a dear man-an apologist, and an overachiever. I am a kindred spirit and understand what you go through internally. You can't please the entire world at the same time. Start with those you love and spin forward! Lay aside the guilt at not meeting the often unreasonable limits you create for yourself and realize that I for one am grateful for the content you create whenever it arrives. I am a history geek and have had many hours of enjoyment listening to you and your delightful Irish accent spin many tales of what I never learned-even in College. (I am in the American Southwest and enjoy programming from across the pond and in the Isles.)
It was your earnest efforts and attention to detail that moved me to become a Patron; now happily binging one series after another.
Congrats on your PhD. You will find the right job at the right time. take heart.
Onward-
Marian Truehart

Wow, thanks Ian. It's certainly a hard thing to face. Dad has always been my biggest fan, so it has been hard to carry on when he's been so unwell. It is in times like these that you start to reconsider what is truly important. Yeah, even though it's been a mad time, it still feels like the calm before the storm in a weird way!

Yes, I couldn't help but feel like it was a somewhat familiar experience haha. Dad will be fine, but even he would tell me to slow the eff down! Thanks boss!

As the same type of personality and someone who regrets not being there when his father died, I understand this more than you can imagine. Hell, if one episode per month is all you can do consistently, far better to deliver that than anything else. It only gets more hectic from here on out. :) my best wishes to you.

Ah the famous Twamley mea culpa. 😂
Sorry Zack, for some reason listening to you for over a decade makes me feel like we're familiar enough for me to give you a bit of ribbing.
So sorry to hear about your dad. Take all the time you need and don't worry about the reduced release schedule. Once a week (plus AoB) is par for the course for most podcasters!

Zach, sorry, Dr. Zach, take all the time you need for your dad and sis. We are a patient lot. We appreciate all your contributions here. Rigid schedule? I prefer Irish time. Best wishes on the job hunt.
