Golden ratio. I didn't draw it and then adjusted things over it, since that could be too limiting composition wise. I had it in mind and imagined how that could help when drawing the character though. I've found with years that I commonly use similar arcs in shape and approximated ratios unconsciously since they're pleasing to the eye, so when I get the chance I try to think in this shape since is fun to play with.
Rule of thirds. Crotch, elbow and tail are closely placed to match these points.
Spaces. Contrast between close and far/open. Is a good thing to let the composition breath and leave unoccupied spaces, otherwise it would be too busy and the eye would have a hard time focusing and resting on things.
Focal point. Almost previous rules, perspective, gesture and all else leads or coincide in this place, leading the eye to it and making it the main point. Its also the most saturated place in the sky and clouds spiral around it, like if a camera with a wide angle lens was used.
