WDF: Henry VIII's Foreign Policy

[PATRONS]

This is something special! For all $1 Patrons and above, we have a special episode examining Henry VIII's foreign policy during the period 1509-47. This is an episode which I very much enjoyed doing, and which will be released in the History of England feed in mid-June. However, since you Patrons are so lovely and we've now abandoned the Korean War for a month, and since I want to draw people to this $1 support tier AND since it's my 1 year wedding anniversary and I do what I want, I thought you guys would get a kick out of this.

Within this episode we examine the period of English history when one of its most famous kings was in the all important seat. As we'll see though, fame doesn't necessarily mean power. While Henry was a moderately powerful king ruling at a pivotal (and fascinating) time in history, he was surrounded by powers that were gargantuan in ambition and strength. In fact, with figures like Charles V, Francis of France and Suleiman the Magnificent doing the rounds, it's hardly surprising that Henry VIII was dwarfed.

Nonetheless, in this episode we do our best to examine how successful Henry was in creating a policy of his own, and whether it deserves to even be called a foreign 'policy' at all. Was Henry merely reacting to the actions of his neighbours, or was he following a consistent, rational policy course? Expect a story filled with high politics, intrigue and the diplomatic dealings which you've come to love from WDF. Listen in to find out my conclusions, and a huge thankssss to all of you for listening in and supporting WDF on Patreon at this exciting time!
