"Am I to meet my creator?"
"Yes, Inshallah", came the reply.
At this brief conversation, Kara Mustafa, Grand Vizier and perhaps the sole driving force behind the last siege of Vienna, understood that his Sultan had sentenced him to die. Incidentally, it was not for the failure to take Vienna, but for the succession of failures which followed the last sieges, that Mustafa was to be punished for.
Yet, just as surely as the war against the Ottomans did not end with Kara Mustafa's death, so too does our coverage of Jan Sobieski continue even after his most legendary exploit has been achieved. Sobieski, desperate to insulate his homeland from further Ottoman attacks, was willing to go to extreme lengths in order to provide the security he believed the Commonwealth needed.
The results would divide opinion, and in our Epilogue of the biography, we wrap up our coverage and give you guys some food for thought. It's been an incredible journey since we first began this extraordinary tale 12 weeks ago, and I have felt so honoured and flattered by your guys' response. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, for one, and I am delighted that you all got so involved in the story with me.
WDF really has had an incredible year all in all, as 2017, so in this last episode from me this year, I'd like to say a final thankssss and have a lovely Christmas, New Year, Hanukkah and everything else! You guys are the best, and it's because of you guys that I can say - we did it! We'll be bringing this podcast and the discipline of history to even greater heights in 2018, and I can't wait to have all of you along for the ride. We've done so much already, and there's so much good left to come!
