The illumination in this piece is closer to my old illustrations than on more recent drawings, darker scenes with very hard light. In fact, in the sketch stage this piece was not intended to have a very realistic style, but I liked the setting and lighting so much that I couldn't help but render it this way to make the more of these.
I chose to work over a ground pale orange color to make it harmonious with her clothes and hair, with this knew I needed a sunset or warm light scene.
About her colors, at first, I tested making her fur on a less yellow hue and her hair more blue (not show here), but the overall scene looked less natural (since its close to the sunset and she is inside with low light), the warm illumination makes her natural colors shift a little.
Not too much to talk about the composition, except that she seems to be in a cabin on a tropical region and we have two light sources, one from the exterior behind her which creates a faint rim light (making the fur on ears and tail shine), and one from the side (either sun from the window or and interior lamp, I decided to leave the temperature and intensity ambiguous).
