Summary: Tadashi finds himself in the spirit realm and finds out that on a particular day, the living and the dead meet. That day is Halloween.
Inspired by the episode ‘Obake Yashiki’ from Big Hero 6 the Series.
I do not own Big Hero 6.
Enjoy!
“TADASHI!”
That was the last thing he heard before he felt an incredible amount of heat wash through him and a light so bright that it blinded him.
He opened his eyes and could not believe it when he saw a person hovering in front of him.
“Welcome to the Spirit world!” Said, the boy who looked no older than 8. “You're dead. I must say, you want out in a blaze of glory!”
“W-What?” He said.
“You're dead.” Said, the boy repeating it while his head separated from his body before Tadashi very eyes. “You ran into a building, and it blew up, taking you with it.”
“.....Huh?” He said.
“Geez. You're supposed to be a genius” Said, the boy before the world began to come up literally below them.
Suddenly there were lots of books cases appearing from nowhere, and all kinds of floating people came into existence.
Some had fiscally injuries on them that could quickly kill a person.
Some were old.
Some were sickly.
Not a single person was standing on their feet like a human being.
“I CAN’T BE DEAD!” Suddenly a crying girl yelled, “I HAVE MY WHOLE LIFE, IN FRONT OF ME!”
People ignored her.
“Geez. The winners. Just accept death.” Said, a guy floating by with half of his brain sticking out.
“Your only saying that because you don’t have anybody to miss you,” Said, another guy with his inside’s on display.
Seeing all of this, how could Tadashi not believe that he was in the Spirit realm.
“Wait. What about Professor Callaghan? What about Hiro? What about Aunt Cass?” He said, “My friends?”
When he made up his mind, he knows he was putting himself at risk.
He just thought he would make it back in time; he didn’t expect for the building to blow up once he was inside instantly.
He had left people behind.
“Don’t know and don’t care” Said, the boy. “Here in the spirit world, we can do whatever we want for all eternity. This world house’s all the souls that were killed before their time. So if you were hoping for Heaven or Hell, you're out of luck.”
“I couldn’t stay here. Not fully” Tadashi said, “Is there a way for me to get back to the world of the living?”
“Your body was burned alive. There’s no way back for you.” Said, the boy. “So you have no choice but to stay here for all of eternity. Unless..”
“Unless...what?” Tadashi said.
“Sometimes, the spirit world bleeds into the world of the living” Said, the boy. “The two worlds live side by side each other and are connected. There are certain places a spirit can enter the world of the living..”
“...That’s fantastic” Tadashi said. “I need to get to one of those places.”
“It won’t do you any good,” Said the boy confusing him. “The connection won’t be strong enough to pull you through. There is only one day, where the living and the dead can interact with each other.”
“A day?” Tadashi said.
“The holiday called Halloween,” The boy said. “It’s the day when the connection between the two worlds is at its peak. Spirits can walk amongst the living freely when it’s Halloween. For 24 magical hours, we’ll be able to interact with the world of the living. It’s especially strong when the sun goes down.” before the boy said in a bored tone. “Some of the ghost who bleed into that world, go looking for their loved one. Other’s want to stretch their legs. Some of the spirits go into that world and create more spirit. Although they get punished for that.”
“So, I can see my family!” Tadashi said, excited. “Halloween is only three months away.”
“You missed it,” Said, the boy making him go.
“What?”
“Time flows differently in the Spirit world compared to the world of the living,” The boy said. “Sometimes a second here can be a month in the world of the living. Sometimes a minute there could be a mere second in our world. Time is bizarre here, and it never stays the same”
“So how do you know it’s Halloween?” Tadashi said.
“We just know” Said, the boy. “It’s the happiest time of the year for us, Spirit’s. We can look freaky, and nobody would bat an eye because the living think we’re wearing costumes.”
So, if he wanted to go to the world of the living, he would have to wait for Halloween.
What would he do in the meantime?
#A year later in the world of the Living#
Hiro woke up and stretched.
“Good morning Hiro,” Baymax said.
“Good morning Baymax,” Hiro said.
“Today is the holiday, Halloween” Baymax said. “So, the risk of your heart beating more than what is accepted as normal increases by 40%.”
“Don’t worry about me, Baymax” Hiro said, “I’ve gone through tones of Halloweens and scary stuff. There is no risk of my heart jumping out of my chest.”
Then he went downstairs to greet Aunt Cass; already he could see her making room for the scary stuff that she would decorate her shop with.
“Hiro, I was just about to go to the shop and start putting these up. You can come and help me” Aunt Cass said, making her way out of the door with a large box and Hiro carried the other to the shop.
They entered it, and she got a leader to start putting the streamers at every high corner of the shop, he held the ladder for her.
Suddenly, they both heard a knock at the door.
“WE’RE NOT OPEN YET!” Aunt Cass yelled.
However, the person did not seem to hear her and knocked again.
“Hiro, can you go the front and tell the person were not open?” She said, “I’m willing to stay perfectly still until you get back.”
“Sure,” he said before he left and went to the front.
Just in time to see the fleeting's signs of a person.
Hiro was stunned when he saw a familiar hairstyle and a sweater that reminded him so much of his brother.
No.
It must be a coincidence.
“DID YOU TELL THEM WERE NOT OPEN YET!?” Aunt Cass yelled from the kitchen.
“The person left when I got there,” Hiro said, running back to her.
Then they finished up and that where his friends found him.
“Awesome, looking shop,” Fred said.
“Thank you. Hiro just helped me finish up” Aunt Cass said, before dismissing him to hang out with his friends.
And he did.
“You know... I had the craziest encounter” Hiro said, walking to school even though it wasn’t a school day. “Well, it wasn’t an encounter, but this guy was knocking on the shop door, and the back of him looked like my brother. I think I’m starting to see things.”
His friends looked at each other.
Maybe, he was missing his brother, again?
Then they entered the building and Hiro could have sworn he saw the back of Tadashi, heading to his room.
He blinked.
The person was gone.
“I need a rest,” Hiro said, “I see Tadashi again.”
“I’m sure; you can have a nap in your room,” Honey Lemon said.
Hiro went to his room and flopped down on the bed.
Suddenly he heard.
“Hiro”
“TADASHI!?” Hiro said, sitting up and looking around frantically.
The voice sounded just like Tadashi.
However, there was nobody in the room but him.
He was going crazy.
“The connection here is terrible... but then again, this is a place of science.” said, the voice of his brother.
Hiro was hearing things.
Hiro tried his hardest to shut out everything and found himself asleep.
He woke up an hour later and appeared much more rested.
“You look better,” Go Go said.
“Feeling better, too,” Hiro said.
Then a person entered the room, looking precisely like Tadashi without his hat.
Hiro screamed and said. “IM GOING NUTS!”
Silence.
“....Then, we’re both nuts, but I’m seeing him too” Fred said, with wide eyes.
Hiro froze.
“Me too,” Honey said.
“Are we all hallucinating at the same time?” Wasabi said.
“Wait, you can all see him?” Hiro said.
Then the person spoke.
“Hi, Hiro” In a voice that was sounded precisely like Tadashi.
All of their eyes widened into shock.
“T-Tadashi?” Hiro said.
“Woah,” Fred said.
Then Tadashi disappeared before all of their eyes.
They froze.
“Jesus. This place is terrible.” suddenly they all heard.
“T-Tadashi?” Hiro said, his voice seemed to come from everywhere.
“I think Tadashi is hunting you” Go Go said, as all of them huddled together as if something scary would pop out from nowhere.
Tadashi reappear in the room, in the same spot, making their hearts skip a beat.
“Hiro. Thank god your still-”
Then he disappeared again.
“Is he on a different plane than us?” Honey Lemon said.
Suddenly Hiro was braver.
“Tadashi, what do you need to stay, fixed?” He said, “Are you stuck in some alternate dimension or something?”
Then they all heard.
“Connection is bad here. Go back to the house and light candles. Lots and Lots of Candles”
His brother's voice was choppy.
And that was all Hiro needed to hear, if his brother was trying to come back or communicate, then he would help from his side.
Hiro was off like a rocket, leaving a group of young adults who were looking around as if the lab had a dozen ghost’s in it.
Hiro entered the house and yelled. “AUNT CASS! WHERE ARE THE CANDLES?”
“In the draw. Why?” She said, walking through the room.
And then Hiro want to the draw like a man possessed and began to light them one by one.
“Hiro, what are you doing?” She said, why was he lighting their candles!?
“It’s Tadashi! He’s trying to communicate with us!” Hiro said the happiest anybody had ever seen him in a long time.
His Aunt was stunned.
“.....Hiro” She said, she thought he had finally moved on.
However, then she heard.
“Aunt Cass”
She was startled and turned and said. “Tadashi!?”
But there was nobody there.
“Tadashi is in the room; Aunt Cass” Hiro said, “He’s trapped somehow, and he’s trying to communicate. I saw him flicking in and out of existence. If we light candles, then we may be able to stabilise him.”
And Aunt didn’t know what to say if Tadashi was genuinely in the room, wouldn’t she want to see him?
If she hadn’t heard his voice, she wouldn’t be even entertaining the thought.
“I’m going to get more candles,” She said, before saying. “There are some in my room” than she left the house to a nearby store.
Hiro went upstairs to get more.
“Hiro...what are you doing?” The voice of Baymax said.
“I’m going to get Tadashi back,” Hiro said.
“How? You know that’s impossible. Tadashi is-” Baymax began.
“I know. Well, he’s somehow here, and he needs my help to stabiles him.” Hiro said, “You’ll see Tadashi with your own eyes, Baymax.”
He had to hope that he would be able to communicate with his big brother again honestly.
Aunt Cass came back with a dozen candles, and everybody pitched into the light everything, a sign was put on their door that said ‘No Trick or Treating Tonight’.
They did not expect; they would spend Halloween like this.
Halloween, a day where something strange was in the air.
It took them two hours to light all the candles.
A minute passed.
Nothing happened.
An Hour passed.
Still nothing.
Hiro's face started to drop.
“Hiro, why don’t you go trick or treat with your friends?” Aunt Cass said, even though she was disappointed, she had to there for Hiro.
Why would she suddenly start hearing Tadashi voice? It must have been her mind playing tricks on her.
However, a second later, something did happen.
A sudden wind appeared in the house despite all the doors and windows being closed.
It started as a small breeze, not even noticeable until it grew loud enough to start ringing in their ears.
The sun had gone down, and it was now officially night time.
“All I wanted to do was see my family again” They both suddenly heard.
Hiro and Aunt Cass eyes were wide.
Baymax immediately went into scanning mode.
“I should have never run into that burning building. What was I thinking?” Said, the voice, suddenly they could all see a figure, sitting on one of the chairs with their back to them.
“I failed Hiro. I failed everyone” Said, the figure, now it had distinguishing features.
Black short hair in a style they had all engraved into their minds, a blazer, roll up jeans and green sneakers.
The appearance was of somebody they would know anywhere because that was what he looked like before he died.
It was Tadashi.
“....Tadashi, you didn’t fail me” Hiro said.
The person on the chair froze and then turned around, exposing the face that they only saw in pictures and dreams.
“You two can see me and communicate with me?” He said, surprised and got up.
Hiro suddenly lunged at him hugging him.
Hiro needed to feel him, make sure, he was there and real.
He wishes were granted because he felt solidness.
“Of Course, we can see you,” Aunt Cass said, with tears in her eyes.
Her eldest was here.
But then Baymax said.
“Hiro, what are you doing? My sensor indicates that there is nothing there.”
And scene!
